Kandy Quietude

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Kandy Quietude. Sene and Chrish are incredibly helpful and seemed to bend over backwards in order to help me have an comfortable stay here and an easy onward journey. 
The property is in a lovely location about 1km from the centre or a 300-400 rupee tuk tuk ride. 
Breakfast was fresh and a great way to start the day and I even opted to have dinner with Sene and Chrish one night, which I would highly recommend, as they will give you an authentic Sri Lankan meal.

I have been to Kandy Quietude twice. This superb location gives you a view of a Kandyan village with its terraced rice fields surrounded by lush coconut trees, jack trees and other produce that gives a distinct charm to the Kandyan way of life.  If you face the wind looking north at the end of the south west monsoon in August you will not only see the Knuckles Range towering above the valley but also be refreshed by the coolness of the wind. Chrish and Sene Seneviratne have maintained their beautiful home and given me a wonderful experience, especially to return to the place of my birth. Any reader will benefit from reading Robert Knox's An Historical relation of Ceylon, first published in London in 1681.  He wrote of his imprisonment by the King of Kandy and described his experiences in the Kandyan villages and the region.

We had a lovely stay at Kandy Quietude just outside Kandy in a beautiful setting with a view of the rice fields and a beautiful garden tended by the owner. Sene and Chrish were very welcoming, helpful with travel suggestions, flexible about our hours coming and going and generally very hospitable. The rooms were comfortable with ceiling fans, one with a private ensuite bath, the other with an adjacent bath. The breakfasts were varied and very nice and accommodated my vegetarian travelmate. For a small extra fee they made dinner one night which was also very good, with a variety of interesting and well prepared dishes.  This was a nice and quiet place to retreat to at night after a busy day in the city center. Very reasonably priced too.

I spent two nights at Kandy Quietude and would recommend it for several reasons:

1) The food was authentic and delicious
2) The owners were charming and very helpful
3) The bathroom attached to my bedroom was beautiful, spacious, with abundant hot water and fluffy towels
4) It was a very good value

On my next trip to Sri Lanka, I think I will start here and stay a week!
