Thotupola Residence

This homestay is not central but is quirky and charming with lovely river views. On arrival you are greeted by very friendly people and a big soppy Labrador. I love dogs but be aware in case you don’t. The room was large with a thatched bathroom. Good Mosi curtains provided . Water is filtered so no plastic bottles which is a big tick. The only downside is that the door to the room is glassed so the landing light shone through which was annoying as can be seen from bed and disturbed sleep . I switched the landing light off but it did not stay off. Perhaps a door curtain could be installed? Dining was on a covered terrace overlooking the river . In the morning little squirrels were running around which was cute. Arrived when it was dark so I can’t say what was around in the area but there did not seem to be a lot so eat before you arrive or accept you must eat at the accommodation. Eating there is no loss however - supper was delicious. Supper was served as a buffet in a traditional styled kitchen and the food was all good. The aubergine curry was outstanding. Breakfast was extremely modest which surprised me. I am not sure if I missed something , misunderstood or it was not all out but basically all I got to eat was fruit and curd so was left feeling hungry. Overall a lovely stay though and one of my favourite places I stayed when in Sri Lanka.
