Me and my partner from London stayed hear what a lovely place! Away from the town by only ten minutes clean rooms extremely helpful honest and humble host's very informative would highly recommend this place.
We would definitely stay hear again when returning to kandy

Hidden gem!

The place itself is nice, and the owner's son is a sweetheart but apparently it was written "WALLET" on my forehead for the owner, as just before leaving he asked me half the price of a lunch for the "gas" used to boil water when I asked if it was possible to get some hot water. When he had an electric water heater ! In 4 years of traveling I have come accross only 1 or 2 cases like this except for the street scammers. 
The place is nice but you can be sure I won't be coming back. 
I'd recommend fellow travelers to pay the price of the room directly when you arrive and ask the price for whatever you ask for. 

Note : he sent a payment request through booking afterwards, asking for an even higher price than he had told me for his "gas use".

Started well and ended up with a scam

We always wanted to stay away from main city to avoid traffic, pollution and noise, so we can relax at evening without any issue.
No doubt the place offers calm atmosphere but the state of the room we stayed was nit good enough to happily relax. U travel towards your room via a small passage where even a travellers trolley bag is difficult to pass. Our room toilet door was in poor state.
They served us a decent breakfast but never felt the homely feeling which they boost in their advertisement.
Welcome to guest was very poor where no one even addressed us properly. We could not locate the place so had called the host who guided us but once we arrived he was just their to give the key.
Will not prefer to stay again.

Not so great

We loved our stay at Kandy Shady Trees thanks to the very welcoming and accommodating nature of our hosts. The room we stayed in was large and very comfortable and breakfast was fresh and substantial. The location is up a steep hill (we took a tuk tuk up and down it) but could be walked. Views from the property were great and it was in close proximity to central Kandy and many worth visiting sites. Our host also accommodated us by driving us to local sites for a very reasonable fee. He was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, a safe driver and spoke great English.The only (small) thing the room didn't have, or at least, we couldn't get to work, was the hot water. The room was also missing soap. But, all in all, small things and we got by fine.

Worst hotel ever! My friends and I had booked a room for 3 persons (adults). When we arrive to the hotel the manager says that the reservation were only for two person, my friend showed our reservation mail that she got from the booking company (we had booked for 3 persons). The manager said we could all sleep in the same bed and we said no, not for three nights. Then he was really rude and told me and one other friend if we were not that fat all three of us should fit in the bed. We left the hotel after that and got our money back 3 days later.

Great for solo female travellers! The owners were very welcoming and helpful. For an excellent fee they offered me transport to places I needed to go and took me on a tour of Kandy. The room was clean & very comfortable. I highly recommend!

Wonderful, safe, friendly

I really enjoyed staying at Kandy Shady Trees. The owners and family are very kind, warm and welcoming. They are very happy to help with any questions about the city and transport arrangements. I enjoyed the breakfast in the morning all ready at the time I asked the night before. Thanks for making Kandy a great stay. Easy walk down hill to cafes, the city and the river. Bit of a harder walk back, but good for the legs! I enjoyed the walk. 

Lovely homestay away from the busy crazy city

I usually don't write reviews but I had to write so that service can be improved. Hot shower  not working properly ,wifi not working and the worst thing ....I got bed bugs.. I hope it will be improved in the future.

Terrible place

From the beginning, there were red flags! The owner did not answer any of my phone calls or messages through Orbitz for our free transfer from the train station. Do not be fooled, the free transfer is NOT from Colombo Airport it is from Kandy Airport.  Lack Of Communication:After contacting him for two days, I finally received an answer as we were boarding the train from Colombo - I proceeded to tell him the time we were arriving, he agreed to pick us up- once we arrived he was a no-show. We ran into a very nice Tuk Tuk driver that soon explained to us that the owner is disorganized and "not good at his business". After calling another 5 times, the Tuk Tuk driver offered to call him - he soon arrived in an old van to pick us up. Poor Room:We weren't expecting anything amazing with the low rate but we were expecting a clean room with bed sheets. Even that was too much to ask for. The room was filthy, filled with bugs due to him leaving the windows open at night. We had to ask for bed sheets, we were given 2 twin size fleece blankets, we also had to ask for 2 new pillowcases as the initial ones received were so dirty the white design was almost black. Ants infested all over!Interaction with Staff:We basically only had interaction when we returned or left the home never asking if we needed anything, never offered to get us a tuk tuk. His recco's were not safe for westerners IE. walking through dark streets!I'm shocked this was available on Orbitz with 5-star reviews
