Firstly, i'd just like to state that this is a very long review and if you'd take the time to read it maybe you'd consider avoiding this place at all costs!
Not only a terrible, dirty, loud and unpleasant hotel, but also, the owner is the rudest person I have ever come across in Sri Lanka. I reviewed the hotel before I check out, and once he read my bad review on booking and trip advisor, he handled the situation negatively. And for this purpose, i'm writing this new detailed review.
On the last day, during breakfast, and after he read my booking review: We asked to move to a different table for breakfast near the window, the owner said "no you can't". We ignored him and moved and he then said "it's the last time that you switch tables". The restaurant was empty. I asked if this is how he treats visitors, and his response was the bad review! At checkout, he tried to charge us a different price than the one on booking. We definitely didn't pay the extra amount. He just wanted to act more ignorant, inexperienced, unprofessional and definitely incompetent!
Again, and I reitreate, the hotel is horrible and terrible, and the owner is simply impolite, and lacks of professionalism. To start with the location, it's in Ella, but very difficult to reach. Once you enter the room, the bugs, flies and some dead insects welcome you. Once you decide to shower, you use a torn and dirty stained towel. And whenever you complain, they say "It's a mistake". I heard this phrase many times. 
When you decide to sleep, you will be surprised with the stained bed sheets.
When you decide to have a drink at the roof bar, expect a glass of wine measured with a shots glass (which means, you will drink almost 2 spoons of wine!)
If you have a meeting or you're tired and decide to take a nap in the afternoon, you better find yourself another place, because due to boredom, the employees will be  listening to very loud house music all day long. 
With this bad attitude, the hotel owner guaranteed my negative review. Yes it's an unpleasant ambiance, dirty rooms, low-quality and poor service.
He even mentioned something about tourist police! I told him to go ahead and complain to them! Well, I made it back without being stopped by the so called tourist police and decided to write him another bad google review which I know he hates. I will definitely not be returning!
This person has no idea what good customer service is. If you are planning to book a hotel in Ella, my advice is DON’T stay in Ella Soul Resort. You will have a very bad experience. There are plenty of hotels in Ella (we just were unlucky to find another hotel as we were a group of friends and wanted to stay together). I'm sure any other place will give you good customer service and reasonable price. Enjoy your time while you are in Sri Lanka. Don’t ruin your holiday because of people like him. Sri Lanka is a such a beautiful country filled with beautiful people. Don’t judge the country and people, based on a person like this hotel owner.
I could go on but i'm not going to waste any more time. I have honestly never been anywhere and met such a rude person. Doesn’t have basic business knowledge at all. For any business their customers are key. But this arrogant person doesn’t have any idea what he is doing.
I learned one phrase at Ella Soul Resort "It's a mistake". 
Well yes, it's a mistake that I came to this place.
I could go on but i'm not going to waste any more time. I have honestly never been anywhere and met such a rude and stayed at such a horrible place. Doesn’t have basic business knowledge at all. For any business their customers are key. But this arrogant person doesn’t have any idea what he is doing. A child in an elementary school wouldn't behave like that!
Lastly, and after reading the unprofessional answer "why I stayed in such a low place"? Here are some photos, enjoy looking at what he called "a Mistake!", and perhaps what he considers a resort! It's not a resort of any kind!

Horrible hotel, unprofessional, inexperienced and incompetent owner

Lovely hotel. Exceptionally clean. Great staff. Wonderful breakfast, highly recommend the Avocado Toast and smoothie bowl. Easy walking distance to Ella. Beds and pillows were soooo comfortable. If coming back to Ella will stay again.

Lovely, friendly Hotel. Rooms were more than adequate, clean and very spacious. Good food and helpful as I am Coeliac which we discussed with the catering staff. Nothing was too much trouble. They were just 100 yards from the main high street and all the restaurants. We stayed 2 nights and we happy with our 2 day stay and would definitely return.

We loved this Hideaway hotel. Set back from the main road, down a short track.

The staff were fantastic, very helpful and friendly.

The breakfast area on the rooftop was great and a choice of 6 dishes were offered. 

We had a family room which was very spacious and the bathroom big too.

This place was so special for us.
It provided an absolute sanctuary with amazing hill views and just far enough away from the road touristy road  below.  The room with balcony was comfortable, clean  and spacious.
Asanka and his team were amazing.  The daily breakfast was a delight and the rooftop chill area was just that.
We had a serious accident in Ella whilst there at the Nine Arches bridge and the genuine  care and concern shown by Asanka  and team was just beautiful and authentic and something we will always be grateful for and never forget.

A truly soulful retreat

Everything looks very new or as if it has been redecorated recently. The rooms are quite big, spotless clean and have comfortable beds with nice smelling linens. Away from the hassle, but only about 5 minute walk to the main road. We had room only, so cannot say anything about the breakfast. Highly recommended place. 

Spotless clean, modern, close to the mainroad, but quiet 

We were only stopping in Ella for 1 night and wanted somewhere close to the main street, so that we could walk to get some food and drinks. We knew from a previous visit that the Cafe Chill was the place to go and looked for somewhere near on a booking site. We booked Ella soul resort hotel, which was up a very small laneway beside Chill and only about a 5 min walk. It was a perfect choice. Even though it was wet and dark when we arrived just after 6pm, we were met by Asanka and Kawidu at the door and they showed us to our room. 
The room was spotless with a very comfortable 4 poster bed with mosquito net. We were not expecting such a fab place for a cost of less than $30. It was a great credit to this hotel that could provide such excellent accommodation for such a great price.
They don't have a restaurant or breakfast facilities, but in less than 5 minutes you have a great choice of breakfast restaurants, which worked out very well for us.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone that is travelling to Ella and wants to be near the centre of all the restaurants and bars, but yet in a quiet surrounding.

My thanks to Asanka, who I found out later was the owner, for such a welcoming and very well kept hotel for the night.

Ella Soul resort, well worth a visit.

A fantastic, reasonably priced hotel conveniently close to the main road but just far enough away that you can't hear the noise. Scalding hot showers (which is good!), A/C, and comfy beds. Asanka was friendly and helpful. I only budgeted one full day for Ella and wish I could stay longer. The area is beautiful and this hotel is a comfortable base for exploring. 

Great hotel, location, staff, and value

This hidden gem is the perfect place to stay in Ella. The room is clean and spacious with a comfortable bed and an amazing view. The area is quiet but situated only a few minutes walk to the busy town of Ella. Asanka is an amazing host - always available and very helpful.

We been at Ella Soul for two days, and this is good hotel with good price. Nice loyal manager and quiet place to live. I think it's best option. 

Also we been at another hotel before this one right in Ella, but Ella Soul we loved more :)
