My husband and I and some friends holidayed in Bentota, Sri Lanka, for three weeks in January 2020. We stayed at The Riverbank Hotel. It was everything we could have wished for. The rooms were large and had very comfortable beds with mosquito nets. There where spacious balconies which overlooked the pool, garden and river. Breakfast was always good. We had a variety of freshly made juices, fresh fruit, etc., and sometimes a typical Sri Lankan breakfast. Although we were staying on a bed and breakfast basis they were happy to cook an evening meal if required. The pool was regularly maintained and very clean. The hotel is run by the most amazing family who were happy to organise trips or transport to the beach, (if we didn’t feel like walking). Nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel very welcome. They went above and beyond to make our stay very special.

Most relaxing holiday ever.

Very cozy and nice hotel, warm people who take very good care of you and fulfill every wish. Breakfast is varied and freshly prepared, you can also get dinner if you wish. (typically local cuisine) Very tasty! Excursions are well organized.

Absolutly the Best place we have stayed on our 3 weeks long trip to Sri Lanka! The location is beautiful, just at the riverside with an amazing view! The owners are the most smiling and helpfull people - allways ready to tell a lot about the Sri Lankan history, the sights close to the hotel and allways ready to help. We went on a boattrip and a car sightseeing with the host and it was some of the most interesting and good tours We have had in Sri Lanka. The breakfast is really delicious. 
The pool is really Nice and i cleaned every morning. 
We were travelling with a 1,5 year old toddler and the hosts were very helpfull with the extra needs of a Small child. 
I highly recommend this hotel!

Amazing Small hotel

Great location, atmosphere, quiet, but the cleaning leaves much to be desired, the garbage is not taken out of the bag, with the baby only with his bed and towels, the kitchen, the washing machine, everything necessary.

Sri Lanka

I was traveling alone in Sri Lanka and wanted to explore the country. So I decided to buy a bed and breakfast hotel. When I arrived, I was already warmly received at the hotel. Breakfast was a highlight every day. There were always different fruits, bread and omelette with coffee and a freshly pressed juice. It was lovingly prepared every day. The hotel and the rooms are very clean. If you want to go on a trip, you could just say it and everything was organized. I felt at home in the family hotel. In those 14 days I got to know the country and many new people who now count among my friends/family. Thank you for everything.

The best vacation, with new friends and lots of fun

I stayed 4 nights and Riverbank Bentota and had a wonderful experience there. Although the hotel is slightly difficult to spot from the road, I didn't have trouble finding it. It is a short walk from the Aluthagama train station so great for people who are coming with the train from Colombo. The hotel is lovely and small so perfect for people who don't enjoy the huge crowds of tourists in some of the larger hotels. My room was very spacious and had a lovely high ceiling. It was also clean and comfortable and had a large balcony with a stunning view of the river and the swimming pool in the garden. Perfect for relaxing in the afternoon. The swimming pool is great if you are feeling a bit too lazy to walk to the beach (Bentota beach is a 10 min walk away) or if the waves are too large for swimming that day. The breakfast was delicious - always came with plenty of fresh fruit and enough coffee to last you the day. The hotel owners/staff were lovely and accommodating hosts and I would definitely stay there again.

This property has pros and cons:
Pros:
-Situated in a calm area facing Bentota river
-20 minutes walk to the beach with available nearby restaurants and supermarkets.
Cons:
-Little to no value for money; Very basic no-frills room, not the cleanest. No kettle, dysfunctional wardrobe, toilet flushing system and door. Things that can be easily fixed and avoided.
-Couldn't relax during my shower, because there's no separation for the water, so it would go everywhere in the bathroom. I had to ask for and keep a squeegee mop in the bathroom to evacuate the water after each shower.
-No housekeeping during our 4 days stay.
-Unclean swimming pool, despite us asking the manager to clean it, which he did, dirt and dead bugs remained. It was also, unfiltered.
-Poor breakfast: a blob of jam, butter, two eggs, 4 toasts,  along with fruit and coffee/tea. This breakfast (only 4 toasts!) was not enough for two persons. Portions can be more generous, and breakfast varied.
-This place is clearly a guesthouse, and not a hotel as it claims. There is no actual staff, but just a family living on the ground floor.
-Poor management. The manager does not know how to handle new/difficult clients issues, and needs to go through a hospitality school to learn what customer service is about. I literally had to teach him about finding a middle ground solution with the client, so they don't leave dissatisfied, but we still left this way. He made us write and sign a paper about our agreement to leave this property, which felt ultimately pitiful.

Overall, this wasn't a pleasant experience & I would not recommend this place to fellow travelers. You can find better than this, for the same budget.

-غرفة بسيطة جداً بدون زخرفة ، وليست الأنظف. لا غلاية في الغرفة،خلل في الخزانة ، نظام المرحاض والباب. اشياء  يمكن إصلاحها بسهولة وتجنبها.
-لا تنظيف لالغرفة خلال إقامتنا 4 أيام.
-حوض السباحة غير نظيف ، على الرغم من طلبنا من المدير تنظيفه ، بقيت الحشرات داخله.
- وجبة إفطار سيئة و بخيلة. لم تكن كافية لشخصين.
-هذا المكان ليس فندق كما يدعي.
-ادارة سيئة. لا يعرف المدير ادارة خدمة الزبائن.

عموما ، هذه لم تكن تجربة ممتعة & أنا لا أوصي هذا المكان إلى المسافرين الآخرين. يمكنك أن تجد أفضل من هذا ، لنفس الميزانية.

I visited the hotel 2 years ago One of the worst hotels not worth the price, i couldn't sleep cause i was surrounded by mosquitoes in plus due to the thin walls in my room i kept on hearing the loud humping and jumping of the people next to my room with their kids that's also 
another reason for a sleepless night.

The next day what a surprise! a flavourless breakfast,and for the pièce de résistance dive in the dirty unfiltered pool to catch a nice fungus and other diseases on your skin,I payed alot for this trip and I get that!!!,the Shame on the Sri Lankan people!!!!,don't they teach you the sense of hospitality!!!!

I spent 3 nights in this hotel with my friend from 5th to 7th of July last year. It was an experience to forget. Then Mr. Danushka SAMARATHNA, the so-called managing director of the Suttle House, was not up to the task, and this is not surprising from an individual who introduced himself as kind of manager to us! First of all, this hotel is not exactly a bathroom, it's rather a class of guest houses. Otherwise, how can we explain that the staff was composed exclusively of the farm Danushka and his wife? Then Mr. Danushka made a shuttle room with a five-star rating based on the guest manager's rating, but also a way to make sure that everyone after they were fairly free to go to the guesthouse without any changes to the standard. Then it was clear that there was no evidence of the absence of the police, because it was not a free door. Then Mr. BUSKARATHEN, who was not in the middle of the night, and Mr. BUSKARATHEN, did not want to
