The room they gave us was fine, it had ventilation and air conditioning. The bathroom was a bit looser, especially the cleaning made it feel dirty... and at night we had a cockroach companion!! (We know it's Asian and it's normal) We called the guy who checked in and the truth is very kind, came to help us get rid of the cockroach even before it disappeared.

 Acceptable GH

We were booked into this hotel for one night by a friend. The room allocated to us was ok, large, clean, tidy with a stunning view from the balcony. The balcony door however had no lock. Bathroom clean and tidy. 

The menu was extremely limited with virtually no choice on it. That said, what I did order for dinner was quite nice. They have no bar. 

The service was variable for the duration of our stay. Staff not remotely attentive. 

At around 4:00 am, we were woken by very loud Hindu music. It  prevented us from sleeping and we were exhausted having been on the road all day. This music continued until we left around 9am. We were told that it had been part of ongoing new year celebrations at a local temple. If I’d been manager of this establishment, I’d have prewarned paying guests about this so they had the option to stay elsewhere.  We were told by a waiter the celebrations had been ongoing for 10 days, so the hotel staff were well aware of it. When we complained, staff were not interested. 

At breakfast, they had pork sausages and pork bacon on the limited breakfast menu. My husband ordered this, but was served chicken bacon/chicken sausages. When he queried this, it was attributed to the new year celebrations also. Staff were not interested.

We certainly won’t stay here again, and would not recommend to anyone.

Book with caution

We stopped here after visiting a tea factory. We ate very well. The setting is beautiful, the view of the valley is breathtaking. The staff is very friendly. A large selection of dishes is available, both European and Asian.

Restaurant with stunning views

We were a group of three travelers, and our expectations, which we had due to the mostly positive reviews on the Internet, were not met. The room was very small, it had a modest odor. In the bathroom it was very sticky and a hint of water came from the shower. Even the breakfast couldn't convince us. Too little toast and too little fruit. We knew this differently from previous homestays. Unfortunately, often only one employee with poor English knowledge was available, so the information was rather poor. The existing air conditioning and the small, existing terrace were pleasant. We arrived with the breakfast, so the host organized a safari to Kadulla National Park for the day within 1.5 hours at a price.

Expectations not met

We used Habarana as a base to explore  Polunawara and go on safari. This bus to Polunawara was a five minute walk away from the lodge. The safari was organised by the lodge who helpfully arranged for us and another couple to  visit the national park at a reasonable price.
We opted to eat in on the first night, which was tasty but seemed to have been purchased from a nearby take-away rather than cooked on site! However, the breakfast was definitely cooked there and was an impressive meal. Rooms could do with some modernisation and TLC as the walls were a bit dirty but the bathroom was fine and the overall stay was comfortable.
I would definitely suggest here as a useful base for exploring.

Decent stay with helpful owner

Terrible place, and highly dissapointed on Sanjeewa Kodagoda (Manager or may be owner). I called this person more than one week ahead saying my requirement for two rooms (for 3 people) with AC. Fine, He agreed to give two rooms for Rs. 6000. But he said he need money to reserve the rooms. Then I said we are coming on the day before and I can come to his place to pay money, and he agreed for that. But, I understand that he has not marked any reservation for me, and just has ignored my booking. Then  I went there the day before and paid Rs. 1000 as an advance and confrimed my booking for the next day. However, next day around 10am he calls me and tells that he has no two rooms to give me and only has 1 room (which he calls a superior room), can accomodate 3 people, and asked me to pay Rs. 7,500...no other options. Now he is increasing the amount even after agreeing and with recieved cash advance. I immediately said I will not come to your place and with many difficulties I had to find another place to stay that night. I collected my Rs 1000 cash advance in the evenning. Highly dissapointed and vey bad. I dont recommend this place to anybody.

Terrible Place...please dont go

 We booked a night in this guest house and the experience was awful. When we arrived the room was absolutely not prepared.
No blankets, nothing in the bathroom (which is very unconvinient to use!) the internet connexion was extremly bad, not a single usable plug! And just to make the worst customer's experience possible, the room full of mosquitoes!!
We complained the next morning and instead of apologizing or at least trying to: showing the bill was of course more important because it's the only thing which matters to them!!! 

To be avoided!!!

We booked by booking because it was too late and when we arrived at the GH we were told that they did not know, that they had not received the email that indicated it, it was quickly resolved. The hotel is fine, it is in an individual casita mode. We dined there and very rich and the local breakfast very well. We stayed at the end of two nights to be able to go to Minneriya in the afternoon, no problem we organized everything to be able to go to Sigiriya in the morning and in the afternoon the safari. The only place that is far from the village itself, to go for the night we need a frontal because it is very remote, besides nobody knew where the GH was, at the end paying a tuktuk we arrived!

The Buena GH

We only arrived today. Staff are friendly and helpful. Room size is Ok, but infrastructure is pure. The floor is clean, but towels are dirty. It is at the borderline of acceptable. I wouldn't recommend it unless you don't have other options.
