Hostal Romay

We booked to stay here over Easter, a lot of accommodation in Barcelona was very expensive but this place was really cheap without being a hostel and sharing rooms with other people. Due to the price and previous reviews I was a bit nervous about staying here. Firstly, the location is brilliant. It's so central, close to everything and easy to find (once you know where it is!) It's in a massive old building which is really cool and although looks a bit run down it's full of character. The hostel is up a couple of flights of stairs and we were let in straight away. The man on the desk was really nice and helpful. He had us down for a single room but we needed a double so he went and sorted the room straight away. The room was small with a sink and shared bathroom but as a place to sleep and for the price it was fine, we never spend much time in the room when we're away. The bathroom was clean and sharing wasn't a problem. My only negative is it was a bit shabby, the walls needed a new coat of paint and it would have made a massive difference but that's only a minor detail. Also I would highly recommend the coffee shop on the corner just over the road for breakfast, amazing coffee, sandwiches and cakes!!
