Looking for peace and quiet overlooking the Cantabrian Sea? This is the place. While it seems very remote, it's actually a short drive into San Sebastian. We occupied most of the house with our group. My husband and I loved it at first sight, but our other travelers were not sure about staying there. They had never before stayed at a rural guesthouse/B&B and felt we were too remote. Plus, the owner did not seem very welcoming. However, it was the weekend and hotels were sold out in San Sebastian except for a few at $300 at night. So, we stayed. Thank goodness. The house is very comfortable, the bedrooms are large and airy, have TV, Wi-Fi and overlook the gardens and the sea. Since our group was a bit put out, hubby and I drove into San Sebastian (less than a 10 minute drive) and found a supermarket and purchased sandwich ingredients, cheese, crackers, sodas, wine, chips, etc. We stopped at a local bar on the way back and begged a bag of ice. Once back to the guesthouse, and armed with groceries and wine, our travelers brightened up considerably. Plus the evening had fallen and the air was clear and chilly. The night sky was beautiful with stars as we sat on the patio and listened to owls in the trees. Igeldo turned out to be our favorite place. The biggest plus for us was a guest kitchen that the proprietor put at our disposal. It was great to have a fridge and stove, microwave, etc. We usually ate our main meal at midday in a cafe/restaurant and ate sandwiches at night. Jose, the owner, was a reserved man but very helpful for our friend in the wheelchair. The house is not easy to find, but it is signposted and you will find it. At 50 euros per room, it was great! I want to go back.
