Finca Rocabella

My usual choice form a menu is a steak (unless there is goat)...simple. It is always cooked blue to rare without any of the usual frippery. High up in the mountains above Alora and El Chorro is the fabulous restaurant of Rocabella, run by a lovely German lady who is multi-lingual. The scenery as you eat is breath taking looking across the most magnificent peaks and valleys in the area. (I wouldn't have know abut this place only everyone talks about it.) It is a bit of a trek to get there and a car is essential unless you are seriously into hiking (I am not!). The steak was one of the finest cuts of meat I have ever eaten. I say this because lying on a farm I know about these things, not shopping in super markets I know what I am looking for in a cut of beef. Seriously when you can cut a blue to rare steak with your fork you know you are experiencing cooking at the hands of a chef who knows what they are doing. It had not been hammered into submission and the flavours were exceptional. If you are ever in Alora, it is well worth the trek into the mountains and find this restaurant, I cannot think of another in the area that knows exactly how to cook this well and I have eaten in quite a few during my stay. Thank you for the experience set in wonderful unparalleled views. I shall be back in less than two months to do it again.
