We were looking for a rural experience and happened upon this hotel in the village of Segura, a few km from Idiazabal in the Basque Country. The town is essentially unchanged since medieval days, with a small museum in an old house discussing the history of the town. Everything is in basque and spanish only but still fun. The hotel is right in town, with nice modern rooms and super friendly innkeepers. Breakfast was lovely and abundant. We ate dinner in the courtyard both nights as the only other restaurant in town was closed both nights we were there (there are other places to get drinks and snacks). Food was not fancy but good. The innkeepers lent us everything we needed for a picnic and day of hiking in a nearby park and even recommended where to buy the best bread and wine. Segura is also directly on the Idiazabal Cheese Trail, a multi-day loop hiking trail thru the mountains and towns, It is very easy to just do a short portion. Highly recommended.
