Mas De Caret

Mas de Caret is charming but idiosyncratic. Only stay here if you like off the beaten track, eccentric charm and deep green environmental credentials. But if, like us, you do like these things, you'll love it. We were greeted with home made cake and a choice of hot drinks. Our room was large with a seating area. The ceilings were very low which added to the rustic charm but which meant my husband had to stoop - and crawl into bed. Most rooms have a small private terrace area Food is local, tasty and served in generous portions. It is served in a big communal room where you can also have access to books, games, seating and drinks during the day. There's the option to sit at a communal table and meet other guests. We were there over a holiday weekend and there were quite a few families with young children - it's a lovely place for children to spend time in the country The showers were a bit tepid (especially on the second night) but I think we may have been in the difficult shoulder season (October) between the solar heating not being fully up to the job and the wood burning system coming on. The toiletries however were really lovely - I think they may have been homemade. Don't bank on the swimming pool. It's far too deep so is only part filled (presumably because otherwise children would drown in it) so you are doggie paddling (it's only small) in a deep tub and you can't see out. A pity as it would be a stunning location for an infinity pool.
