Gyeongju

It is a very well maintained apartment in a quiet location in the middle of the forest. Absolutely quiet. The owners are very friendly and extremely helpful. On request you can also be taken to the city. or picked up by bus. The location is suitable for a more leisurely walk in the forest.

Kitsch boarding house in a nice setting but away from the centres of interest (35 minutes' drive from Gyeongju city centre). Necessity to have a car, to avoid if you are not motorized and want to visit. Difficult access by a very narrow road over two kilometres.

pleasant but far from everything

It's a pictoresk crossover between a Hanok and a Victorian type hotel. Very friendly staff. The room smells a little fund when you enter because of the woody location but if you air the room a little it's soon gone. Maybe a perfumer would be nice? All the necessary comfort is available. Nice shower. It's certainly a room with a view. The hotel is nested between the hills. There is an issue to mention about the location. If you are looking for something peaceful, to camp and make you're own food, and like to hike in nature it's a good destiny. But if you're on a roadtrip looking for a hotel to go and visit the cultural attractions and eat out it is a little bit remote.

i absolutely love it here and instead of 3 days i wish i have 7.  the staff are super friendly and humble. we ordered lunch whilst we waited for our room to get done and it was lovely sitting under a tree and just relaxing. when lunch came we couldn't believe how lovely it was. we checked in and organised the bbq for dinner. it's $25 a person and great value. it's set up for you and whilst downing a few beers beers you do it your self. 

we organised breakfast (you organise it when you check in) and we also organised the bbq for the second night. 

you take a morning walk and head back for breakfast. after that if you have a car go explore if not explore the hiking trails

I was in Gyeongju with my family in April 2016, when Spring said hello to Korea. I decided to book JY Pension after reading many other positive reviews of this pension. It certainly did not disappoint me.

Mr Moon was very prompt in his response via email before i arrived, and was able to accommodate my requests.
He offered one time free pickup and met us at the bus terminal where we arrived from Busan. Though it was the first time we met, we felt his friendliness immediately. He explained the various attractions of Gyeongju, and also told us about his family.

The pension was stunningly beautiful with great nature. Warning: you may not want to head out to explore Gyeongju city, and just stay in the pension.

Mr Moon was also very patient to my queries and able to provide transportation service with a nominal fee. After we left Gyeongju for Seoul, he even called and ensured that we were onboard the KTX safely.

What a nice gesture!

We certainly enjoyed our stay, and we hope to return.

Beautiful pension and a wonderful host

After spending two nights tucked away in the serene peace that surrounds JY Pension I emerged refreshed and buoyed both by the beautiful setting and the incredible hospitality. My room was perfectly appointed and equipped with kitchenette and a charming third floor view (purple room) with lots of natural light. The pension boasts a charming lodge used for breakfasts and other needs (where the owner set me up to read and sip tea he made two nights in a row, just because he could). Though it is a ways out of Gyeongju proper, a bus service is a short lift from the owner away, and he provided some trips for me for a small fee (much less than what a taxi would charge). More than anything, the warmth and hospitality of the owners really blew me away. He could not do enough, and set me up with invaulable information for coming steps of my journey with timetables, maps and other information. Despite being half-way around the world, I already think of it as a go-to retreat - really that outstanding.

the Heart of the Mountain

We stayed there during the Xmas vacation of 2015. The area is fantastic which automatically makes the hotel appealing. Being away from the city noise, waking up in tge morning only to hear the sound of water and birds is amazing. Even though the weather was very cold room was pretty warm (very efficient floor heating). All rooms get the morning sun, which is so nice in the morning especially during a cold day. The owner is very friendly with adequate English level. The building in made of stone and wood which fits very well with the surrounding forest. There was no breakfast and one has to plan well the meals as the hotel is at least about 25min drive from the nearest restaurant. If u choose to have dinner at the hotel Korean BBQ is the only option but you need to buy all ingredients etc. Negative: our room had signs and smell of mould which did not bother us a lot as we kept the window a bit open because the room was very warm. Value for money is very good.

Beautiful pension in the mountain 

We just spent 4 wonderful days in this guesthouse. It is located in the heart of a very quiet valley. The rooms are clean and well maintained. The garden is beautiful, with badminton court and swingers. The owner just moved in mid-2013 and does everything to make your stay enjoyable. He speaks English and can prepare you a BBQ and breakfast (in addition to the room price). Recommended for families and people looking for a place of charm in nature.

It's a beautiful place in nature.

First of all, the bad news is that the hotel is outdoors and is better reached by car. So for car travelers, it's recommended. But even without a car, you'll be fine, because a bus goes from Gyeongju to the hotel for up to two kilometers. And the owner  a really courteous and polite Korean  is so fond of taking over the ride. I think she always does it with carless guests. If you're lucky, she'll drive straight into town. Now, the good news is that the hotel is totally unusual for Korean conditions, both architecture and amenities.

Lovely landscaped hotel for relaxation

Located at the end of a mountain road, 25 min bus stop + walking, this guest house requires a car, which is not specified in the websites (such as booking.com) that offer it. Having booked 2 days we left after a day due to transport difficulties. The owner refused to refund the unused night (booked via Booking.com who also did not want to refund although its description is bad).
