The Hanok & Spa

I went to Daegu with a friend and I can say that the time we spent in Daegu is one for the books and one of the things that made it especially remarkable is our stay at Hanok & Spa hotel. Hanok & Spa is located conveniently at the heart of Daegu. It's only a few train stations away from Dongdaegu Station (KTX Terminal) and is very near Daegu's fashion district, Dongseongno Street. It is also a stone throw's away from Daegu Museum and the beautiful Gyeongsang-Gamyeong Park. Hanok & Spa is affiliated with The Style Guesthouse. This is also the reason why both The Style and Hanok & Spa are located on the same place when you look for them in the map. Wherein The Style is a modern-style guesthouse, Hanok & Spa, on the other hand, caters to visitors who would like to experience traditional Korean living. Also, Hanok and Spa's clandestine location provides its guests a more serene and private atmosphere. As Hanok & Spa is associated with The Style, check in and check out is at The Style counter. Given that Hanok & Spa is secluded, it is recommended that guests should check in first so that the staff can help them with the directions in reaching the guesthouse. Each guest is given a key and small towel. My friend and I booked an ondol room. Ondols are traditional Korean rooms with underfloor heating. If you are going to book the ondol room, I recommend that you stay there with a friend so you can share the cost. The room we booked does not have a bed but we are provided with traditional sleeping bags, comforters, and pillows. The ondol room has a floor length mirror, bedside drawer, clothes hangers, and hair blower. The shared bathroom and toilet is located outside (on the same wing with the quaint cafe). Hanok & Spa only has seven rooms; hence, there are usually few people around and guests do not have to worry about long queues when going to the loo. Breakfast (egg and bread) is served at The Style cafe from 8:00-10:00 in the morning. Guests are given the liberty of cooking their food. Coffee and tea are also free for Hanok & Spa customers. Perhaps, what made our stay memorable is the remarkable service of its staff. Their receptionists are quite hospitable and have a great grasp of the English language. They are accommodating and very friendly. My friend, in particular, had one unforgettable experience at the guesthouse. It was past 10 in the morning and we were rushing because check-out time is at 11:00. In our haste, my friend left her gold necklace in one of the drawers. We checked out, wandered all over Daegu, and was on our way to the KTX station (going to Seoul) at around three in the afternoon when she realized that her necklace was left behind. My friend went back to the hostel hoping to still find it there and true enough, the staff readily welcomed her and said that their cleaning lady found the necklace. Clean, pleasant, and perfect for unwinding. With the room rates it offers, Hanok & Spa is a steal for travelers. If there are three things we will always remember Daegu for, it would be its food, its beautiful scenery, and its beautiful people.
