Villa Mulligan

This is a German owned, upmarket  guesthouse with a stunning view over the Knysna bay (Terrace).  Rooms luxurious and neat, breakfast superb. Approx. 3km drive to Knysna harbour (fish restaurants),  highly recommended.  .

Markus and Chris are wonderful hosts and their B&B is in a beautiful location and is a beautiful place to stay.  My wife and I only wished that our time there could have been longer.  We enjoyed a large bedroom /  bath area and a private balcony.  We miss the Knysna Laurie (sp?) and Markus' humble golf stories.  Markus and Chris are a wonderful couple and make your stay in Knysna so comfortable and relaxing.  Not to be missed, but we will miss them until we return.

Thank you so much for a fantastic stay. We're obviously missing the view, fantastic breakfast, awesome coffee and the relaxed easy going vibe you have created in your beautiful space.

We will be back on our next visit! Hoping for a few more days of sun to enjoy the pool and sun loungers etc

One does not simply leave Villa Mulligan without feeling rested, refreshed, and feeling like one has just won at least two more family members. Markus and Chris are a fantastic team, who make everyone feel incredibly welcome with their hearty and calm ways. Even the Knysna 'loeries' are attracted to this lovely Guesthouse, greeting all visitors on the porch every morning, knowing that a little fruity treat will be in store for them. 
Tranquil surrounds and the most breathtaking views over the entire Knysna lagoon makes everyone's stay truly unforgettable.

And even when there's not enough time to visit for a few days, passing Knysna without popping in for a 'lekker coffee' and friendly faces at Villa Mulligan is simply impossible to do.

Upmarket Guesthouse with stunning view

We are missing the hospitality

We are going to try to offer a constructive, balanced review and note that the owner responds to poor feedback.  The pros of this accommodation are the stunning views, the comfy bed, the spacious room and the friendly LOCAL staff.  Also, Marcus was kind in his dealings and in offering us a lift into town.  The pool area is also lovely.  We have read the other reviews and our perception and experience feel a world away from these.  The cons of this accommodation are a lack of fridge and tea making facilities in the room, outdated, tired decor (including a chipped toilet seat).  Also, lack of wifi access in the rooms.  But the worst aspect of our stay was the female host, Chris.  She was very quick to query payment (where the bill is normally settled on departure).  We then asked her what we owed and she became very combative.  She maligned the company we booked through, angrily informed us there were no card facilities (not a problem in itself, but we were unaware). Also, the level of service she offered us was not in line with other guests.   We noted at breakfast that our table was not cleared, we were not offered additional hot drinks and she sent the lady serving us off to another chore, whilst we watched her clearing other guests tables and offering additional drinks and service.  She also went off during the middle of breakfast service to complete a jigsaw, whilst the breadbasket was barely full with nearly 45 minutes of breakfast service remaining.  The 'outstanding' breakfast others mention seems to consist of one hard boiled egg per person, hard boiled, regardless of how you requested them.  To be honest, we travel extensively and have never felt strongly enough to leave a poor review and would think carefully before doing so.  We have never experienced such strange, uncomfortable, hostile 'service' and this is especially awkward as you're sharing someone's home.
