Gondwana Game Reserve

We (6 of us) had a fantastic 2 night stay at Gondwana, in one of the exceptional Kwena Lodges. You are allocated a driver for your stay, and I think we struck gold with ours, Frans. He was quick to get a sense of what our group dynamic was like, and he answered our questions with a breadth of knowledge. We were never made to feel like we were asking something obvious or silly. Granted we were exceptionally lucky with the sheer number of animals we got to see, and Frans himself said he hadn't quite experienced a weekend like it. I was struck by the affinity he has for nature. He knew all of the animals by name, and those that were perhaps too generic or great in number to be allocated one, he effectionately referred to with names such as 'the mighty prince'. There were many moments of quiet contemplation. Honestly, it was an almost religious experience for me. Really grounding and thought provoking. Beyond the reserve drive the lodges and restaurant are stunning. The food was fabulous and served up by friendly staff. My only complaint would be that there was too much. By the end of the second day I couldn't bear to face another starter or desert! Suffice to say it was a good enough experience for me to want to return again. I couldn't really explain it to people when I returned home. You have to live it to truly appreciate it.
