Clean rooms good prices very upmarket! Love it in hart of Mellvile. If you are coming to JHB this is the place to stay. Will definitely stay here again. Walking distance from bars and restaurants. Staff are very friendly and always willing to help. Stayed here for 5days and every day was awesome

I spent a week at the Space House in July. Located in the heart of Melville, it is a very comfortable  place with a sitting room, a bedroom, kitchen and bathroom.  My room overlooked the street, which is full of life. Breakfast across the road in a cafe is great.  Would recommend all those who want to be comfortable but prefer to self-cater.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.  Rooms are modern, a good size, very clean and serviced well with all the convenience of staying in an apartment.  The staff were very friendly and accommodating.  It's located in Melville - a really nice suburb of Johannesburg where you get to experience the real Joburg unlike Sandton which feels like staying in a shopping centre.  Melville has a few bars, restaurants and cafes all offering different cuisines and located in 7th Street just a couple of metres away from the Space Guest House.  It was great to get out and about and discover the lovely Melville. Supermarket is only just down the road and taxis are easy to grab.  Melville is safe both during the day and night and I highly recommend staying here - it has everything you want when visiting a new city.

Very nice guest house in a great location

This particular room #28 is a modern room with modern furnishings in an open plan that encompasses kitchen and lounge in one well-lit space. I spent most of my time at the marble or granite kitchen island on high bar stools simply because it was comfortable, but also because the plastic couches were damaged. It’s a pity that such a beautiful property had so many fittings not working properly—kitchen tap lose, bedroom door lock lose, sheet torn, shelf lose and electric connection stacked in an unsafe manner. All these require a meticulous handy man and they will no longer be a problem. Still for R2,000 for three nights this was value for money. If you enjoy self-catering, I would recommend the place provided these small things are fixed. 

A modern Hisense TV with streaming services was a welcome enhancement, although someone must ensure to remove guest accounts with every departure.

Modern value in Fortress Johannesburg

My wife and I arrived at the space guest house hoping that we would have a romantic getaway since the guest house was suppose to be a 4 star guest house. The staff was not professional, the lady that helped us smelled of liquor and our name was not on the register and besides that our room was changed from suite 4 to suite 1 because one of the managers friends decided to stay a day longer in suite 4 which I found ridiculously unprofessional it was one of our worst experiences at a highly rated guest house and we were not even booked for breakfast yet it was included . We were sent to another restaurant where we had to walk a good distance to. I'm extremely disappointed in this guest house and really would not recommend it to anyone.

We stayed here in October 2015 between a week in Cape Town and our safari--then on the way back from safari as well.  We did feel a very weird dynamic here between the white receptionist and the black employees.  As a multi-racial couple, the woman at the front desk ignored the person of color in our party almost entirely, and when she needed to ask questions, directed them to the white person.  The treatment of the black staff was uncomfortable, especially the way they were spoken to in front of guests, and we noticed this within our first 10 minutes of being here.  The rooms were large, though none had air conditioning (we stayed in two different rooms on either end of our stay in Joburg and it was extremely hot in both rooms), and the last one had a timer on the lights where they would strobe starting at 3am and there was no way to get them to stop.  This location came highly recommended to us, and while we loved our stay in Melville, would not stay at the Space Guest House or recommend it to friends--especially if they are traveling with people of color.  We considered canceling our reservation post-safari, but felt it would be too much of a hassle and, unfortunately, decided to stay another two nights in this location.  

All in all, our experience here was extremely uncomfortable, and we will not be coming back.
