Steve and Ann welcomed us into their home. They had great tips about the attractions around Jeffreys Bay and suggested the best Restaurant in Africa: 3 Fat Fish!
We had pleasant conversations after dinner and at breakfast. We really felt at home with these great people.

We decided to stay at mount Joy, due to the location (In front of "Supertubes" surf spot, with good views to it from the terrace), and 200m uphill from the parking 200m). Our experience was excellent. 

We felt really welcomed by Steve and Anne. (and "TZ" their lovely dog) They offered us nice dinners (best meat I ever had), and very good breakfasts (don't miss their home made muesly). 
 First night, we had a very nice room on the 1st floor, with no views, as from our 2nd night we had the Honeymoon Suite: we could check the waves (Boneyard and Magnatubes) from the room's terrace, and The relaxing bubble bath was the perfect end of the day. (we were lucky, we had good swell on January!).

We staid "only" a week, and we left Mount Joy with sorrow, but we will be back again...

I have never written on Tripadvisor before, though I read other people's reviews often.  After returning home from South Africa and staying at Mount Joy, I decided to create an account just to write about this place.

When I first decided to stay at Mount Joy, I was a bit hesitant, because it was less expensive than other guest houses and I couldn't find much information on it.  I soon learned that they have only been running it themselves for about a year and that they really just like having guests and don't want to be taking people's money.  I know, this sounds ridiculous, but it is true!  They could definitely charge more...but then they would end up with super picky people there.  You get more than you pay for.  I promise.

Mount Joy is located one block up from the main road, so there was NO noise at all...well, except for the ocean.  Though it is only one block, this block is straight up a hill, which gives the place an amazing ocean view.  There is a path that leads down to Supertubes (beach)...maybe a 4 minute walk.

Steve and Anne are incredible owners.  I honestly felt like I was being welcomed home.  The guesthouse is immaculate!  They cook fantastic meals, and are happy to cater to any dietary needs.  The rooms have coffee/tea/biscuits in them, though this wasn't even necessary because Steve and Anne were always asking if they could get me a drink.  

I was traveling alone, and they welcomed me in like family.  The three of us ate dinner together each night...we sat and chatted...had tea/coffee and pudding (dessert).  They made really good food...(they used to be in the restaurant/bakery business)

It is a bit of a walk to the main part of town (read: touristy part).  I walked each day, because I enjoyed it, but Steve and Anne offered to drive me over and over again.  

Also, they have an awesome dog!!

A very welcoming stay. Rooms were nice, very clean. Property is a family home that you feel welcome staying in (we loved the dog!)

The guest house owner was very friendly and down to earth. She even shared her last bottle of wine with us! 
 
A 5 minute drive from central j bay and a good 30min walk 

I don't think I'd return to jbay but if I did would stay here
