We had the most wonderful 2 night  stay in Les Baleines  in Hermanus. The accommodation was first class & so tastefully decorated . We were only a 5 minute walk from the beach which was stunning. Unfortunately the weather didn’t cooperate for us  to go Whale Watching but Theresa & Francois gave us invaluable local information to keep us busy! We can’t thank them enough for their wonderful hospitality & would highly recommend the guesthouse.

We spent 2 nights at Les Baleines, we were upgraded to a room with amazing views of the ocean and a large balcony area overlooking the pool. Teresa met us on arrival and couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating.  She gave us her number and said she was available 24/7, she also booked us a restaurant in town.  Although Teresa made her self available we were then left to our own devices as if the property was ours.  The room itself was wonderful with all the amenities we required.

Although slightly out of the centre this guest house was fabulous.  We had a room which led out on to the deck where the pool was.

The owner had booked a restaurant for us for the first evening (which could be cancelled if we didn't want it) but it was lovely.  A taxi ride into and from town was easy and cheap.

The second night we walked down and ate at a restaurant on the beach which was good,

Breakfast was provided - which was good and the room was very comfortable with all the usual amenities provided.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to visit the area

We stayed two nights at this lovely guest house. Our room, beluga whale, was very clean and comfortable with a balcony, sun loungers and a wonderful sea view. Teresa the owner was very welcoming, with helpful advice. Breakfast was nice. Would highly recommend.

We have just returned from our trip travelling round South Africa. Les Baleines never fails to please. Lovely location, very bright room with nice view over to the sea,perfect. But best of all is the great service and friendliness of Natalie, the housekeeper. She is amazing. That was our 5th visit to Les Baleines and it never fails to please.we love everything about Hermanus! The town the beach ,the cliff walk all amazing. We definitely look forward to hopefully returning in the future.

Very welcoming and very comfortable accommodation. Nothing appears to be too much trouble with evening meals on arrival pre booked at a local restaurant for convienience. Breakfast adequate but a little over fussy. Tea and coffee facilities in the room which were welcome with a complimentary glass of sherry ( but who drinks sherry these days?). Great pool area to relax by and soak up the sun. As others have stated it is over an hours walk into town, but you can call for a taxi on the house phone for free, which makes sense if you are intending to drink alchohol with your meal, taxi fare 95 rand

We stayed here for 2 nights and Theresa made us feel at home. Our room was lovely and comfortable. On arrival Theresa informed us that she had made dinner reservation for us for that evening, which was so thoughtful. If you don’t make dinner reservation in Hermanus you won’t get a table in the popular restaurants. Theresa gave us advice for lunch, Dutchies at the edge of grotto beach. It was a short walk and the view was superb. Breakfast was lovely and freshly cooked food is made to order, made so much better with a superb view of the ocean. There is a cash bar with tea and coffee facilities, so you can help yourself whilst relaxing in the garden. Theresa has gone out of her way to ensure to have a relaxing and stress free stay. I would recommend treating yourself to a stay here, you won’t be disappointed!

The accommodation is superb and the attention from the owner equally attentive.  We went to whale watch and the owner had pre-booked a trip for us in case we hadn't thought of it in advance and they get full up near the sailing date.  Each room was well provided for and the availability of a glass of sherry in the room may have been quaint but was really delicious.  The hotel has a great if small pool, a games room, reading room and pool/billiards table freely available for guests.  I recommend you take the hostess suggestions for places to eat as she is well versed in what's available.  Breakfast was excellent and there was lots of it!  Altogether a luxury and sophisticated venue at which to stay.

This is a high standard guest house located in a smart suburb near the edge of town.  It is in an elevated position with sea views from the rear of the property, but most of the bedrooms face the road at the front or the side.  Our room was clean, comfortable and spacious and had everything we could want for our two night stay. 
The breakfast was reasonable and imaginatively presented but in the absence of an evening dining facility, you may need to drive or take a taxi into town as it’s a long walk.  The owner had made a provisional reservation for us at the Burgundy restaurant which seemed popular with the locals and we wouldn’t have got a table without a reservation.  However, we preferred the Dutchies restaurant which we discovered on our second night and is a ten minute stroll straight down to the sea front where there is also a beach bar.
There is a lovely walk from the sea front along a coastal path into town which takes about an hour and a half.  There were security guards every few hundred yards but I don’t know why as there was no obvious threat either where we stayed or in the town centre.  The atmosphere was pleasant, relaxed and unthreatening and I would not hesitate to visit the area again.

We stayed at this stunning and beautiful B&B for six pleasurable days. I can’t fault it. Owner and host Teresa is a diamond, she’s friendly, extrovert and makes you feel welcome. Natalie cooks the breakfasts and they are delicious even my husband managed to eat them !  Great stuff Natalie 👍 
On arrival you will find you are booked into the Burgundy restaurant for your evening meal taking any pressure away. A really good restaurant we ate there twice, so definitely go.
The decor of les baleines is amazing and comfortable, there’s even a snooker table. Other amenities include swimming pool, patio area with comfy loungers chairs and tables. Our room had a lovely balcony furnished with loungers, table and chairs with views towards Grotto beach which is 7/10 mins walk away. 
All in all a wonderful stay

Wonderful visit to Hermanus

We were upgraded to a lovely room with our first view of the ocean since arriving in South Africa.  There was also a large balcony overlooking the pool.  Being the only guests mean we also had a huge lounge to ourselves.  Teresa provided us with complimentary wine and beer as well as information plus breakfast the following morning.  We were able to walk easily to the closest beach which was perfect as we had already spent 4.5 hours driving to get there.  The beach was lovely and so was the cafe/restaurant.  We wish we had been booked in for 2 nights rather than one.

Stunning house with stunning views

Enjoyed the facilities at Les Baleines but had expected to be on the outskirts of town as opposed to nearly 6 kms out. Found it a little overpowering to come in at 5 p.m. and be told a restaurant had been booked for you for that night and whale watching trip the next day. Went to the restraint which was good although would have liked to looked around ourselves but did not go out on the whale watching trip the next day. I don't like boats but it also was the whole day and expensive.

Good accomodation but a little far out

Teresa Louw offers a very charming and comfortable guest house. Our room looked onto the sea and had it’s own spacious balcony. It is a good distance from the town centre but taxis are plentiful and the cost was 95 rand. There is an excellent coastal path which is easily accessible from Les Baleines and it is about an hour and a half to walk into the centre. However there are numerous benches to sit on and look out to sea.
We used the laundry service which was very good and not very expensive. There is an honesty bar and tea/coffee making facilities. There is a pool and recliners to sit out and relax.
Teresa books all her guests into the Burgundy Restaurant for their first night under no obligation so she’ll cancel if you have other plans. However it is helpful. In the whale season she also books guests onto a whale watching boat, again with no obligation.
She was also very informative about things to see and do in Oudtshoorn which was our next stop.
I have seen other reviews noting disappointment about breakfast - it is a B&B guest house and not a hotel. Guests are offered a full ‘English’ breakfast or elements of. The food is cooked to order.
Some reviewers have said they find Teresa rude - she is vivacious and talkative admitting herself that she can be a bit bossy but her aim is to help.
Highly recommended.


Elegant and Homely Residence

Delightful Boutique Hotel

We really enjoyed our 2 day stay in Les Baleines. As with other reviews, when we arrived we were greeted by Teresa who had organized a whale watching tour for the following day and an evening meal in Burgundy for that night- neither came with an obligation to do though. Burgundy was delicious, I’d highly recommend. We also done the coastal walk down to the town one of the days which was beautiful. Other than that there isn’t much to do around the town and the guest house is a good trek outside of town but we took the opportunity to just relax in our beautiful room.

One small critique about our stay- we stayed in the Blue Whale room which was stunning and seemed to be the largest of all the rooms however the door leads directly out to the breakfast/bar area so you are woken around 7.30am with the sounds of breakfast being prepared and there were also some people playing pool late in the evening which usually we wouldn’t have minded but we were up at 5am the following morning for our boat trip so we found it hard to get asleep. If you like a bit of a lie in then this room probably isn’t for you.
