Home away from home. Clean crisp linen and well appointed bathroom with shower. Good coffee station. Tranquil setting a quick Uber ride away from main tourist areas in Cape Town. A wholesome breakfast included. Wonderful staff.

Excellent

A 7 night stay felt like home. A team of staff — Gladys, Aldo, and others — along with owner Charles were attentive to assuring a suitable stay with their generous and helpful, personalized information for newcomers to the area. Pleasant walk from the guesthouse to the V&A Waterfront ~4km through old town. Stunning views of Table Mountain via seating on balcony outside of our spacious room. Wonderful breakfast to top it off. Highly recommended. 

Clean, friendly, great location 

Stayed only one night but felt as if I was already a valued guest or old friend. Over-delivers for price. Big rooms in Victorian-era home with eclectic personal decor and lots of thoughtful touches for guest comfort. Sweeping views from the upper slopes of Table Mountain, quiet neighborhood centrally located for Cape Town attractions, eateries and nightlife. Hosts are warm and welcoming, and ready with lots of local knowledge of places to go and things to do. Ample, homemade breakfast. Inviting lounge; books and DVDs everywhere. I will definitely return,

Warm hospitality, comfort and local knowledgeable hosts

Loved this place from start to check out. Rob, Charl and the ladies couldn't have been friendlier and more helpful. Fantastic and very relaxed atmosphere. Room was simple but had everything I needed waking up to the view of Table Mountain included. Breakfast selection was plentiful and the honesty bar filled up with alco/non alco drinks and snacks all the time. However breakfast is only served from 8am which for my busy days was rather too late but they are happy to leave a sandwich in the fridge for you shall you leave early. The location is safe enough to walk on your own during the day. There is a pick up/ drop off from/to the airport available, however Uber works just fine in Cape Town and usually is much cheaper. There is also limited parking available on premises. 
Thank you again for making my stay so wonderful and if ever back in Cape Town I would definitely stay again.

Amazing stay

I just finished four nights at One Belvedere and couldn't be more satisfied with my stay. The property itself is the former home of a Scandinavian emissary of some sort, and its reincarnation as a guest house takes full advantage of its heritage. Most of the guest rooms open to a balcony with wood slat flooring and iron railings -- a bit of New Orleans style in an unlikely location. According to the hosts, boats in the 19th century needed ballast when returning empty to the Indian Ocean; iron and clay tiles served that purpose.

My room was spacious, well appointed, and very comfortable. I believe all the rooms have en suite bathrooms, and that too was well laid out. There is an inherent sense of security in this neighborhood, overlooking downtown Cape Town, so I tended to leave the French doors open at night. There is an "honor bar" in the hallway for those who want water, wined, or a snack.

The hosts offered excellent advice on what to do and, maybe more importantly, how to avoid trouble exploring and respecting the local culture. I'd advise a rental car, since public transit is pretty minimal and the Uber app did not work for me, but the guest house is walkable to downtown for anyone able to negotiate hills. Enjoy a breakfast of espresso, fruit, yogurt, breads, and (if desired) bacon and eggs. All are of fine quality and offered in generous portions. The guest house is also close to a range of restaurants and bars, which are situated several blocks to the northwest. 

Cape Town itself is a wonderful town, with spectacular scenery. One can travel among mountains, beaches, wineries, and game farms all within an hour or so of each other. There remains more than a whiff of colonial background, though probably not as pronounced as in Johannesburg (which I did not visit). The gap between the "haves" and the "have nots" is easy to overlook in the affluent hillside communities where One Belvedere is situated, but signs of it can be found along the highways and elsewhere.  

If you intend to visit Cape Town, I'd highly recommend staying at One Belvedere. It offers great accommodations, excellent breakfasts, and a warm welcome from hosts who clearly love their adopted town, warts and all.
