We stumbled on Penzion Maco one night after a long day skiing and it was so good we ended up returning every night of our stay in Liptovsky Jan. A family run Penzion where you are made to feel very welcome and nothing is too much trouble. The menu is good but there is always something that isn't actually on the menu that is often better! Not being Slovakian and certainly not able to read the menu I was at the mercy of my skiing partner who had to translate everything. I just kept saying that I wanted local food, something that I couldn't eat every day at home. I wasn't disappointed....... I had a pig's knee, which was delicious, with lots of cold pickles and mustards. Pork in jelly with raw onion and vinegar was another of my favourites. The home-made sausage stuffed with meat and rice was just superb and the soups were gorgeous. Every night the bar man / chef / owner / grandfather, (I think his name was Ladislav) made me a jug of hot mulled wine which is just what the doctor ordered when you are frozen to the bone. If you are ever in Liptovsky Jan I would really recommend that you try to eat at Penzion Maco if you can. You won't be disappointed I'm sure.
