The Bencoolen hotel on Hong Kong Street was perfect for our 4 night stay in Singapore. The hotel is in a great location for the MRT, China Town, boat and Clarke Quay. The breakfast was adequate and the staff very friendly. Rooms are quite small but you won't spend much time in them!
We bought a 3 day tourist pass which was great for getting around to the botanic gardens, Chinese and Japanese gardens, Little India etc. We also made use of the Ofo bikes. Just download an app and you get unlimited rides for 7 days for 50 cents. We did need a sim card though as you need data to use them. This was only 15 Singapore dollars. We used the bikes to get around in many places and for getting and from MRT stations, would definitely recommend them. 
I would definitely recommend this hotel to others 😀

Nice hotel in a great location 

Only the one night spent at this hotel but a reasonably priced stay with a decent sized room (by Singapore standards).
Clean room and communal areas, with friendly and helpful staff. They let me check in early (husband caught up with immigration so on my own with many bags, very appreciated) and the tea on tap (i.e. available in the lounge) was great.
Breakfast was a little odd but nice (strange selection of food stuffs that don't entirely go together, but that doesn't bother me)
Rooftop pool small but adequate, I sat in the sun and burned myself while awaiting other half with no disturbance from others.  Would recommend

Good hotel and location

Room size small, but not too crowded, had a small table and chair.  Shower pressure was great, loved the rain head.  Internet speed was okay.  Breakfast was interesting; salad, crackers/cheeses, eggs, sausages, fruit and assorted breads.  Small outdoor jetted pool deck was nice.  Overall, value for money, a great little hotel near the waterfront and subway.

Great location for walking to quays and MRT

We stayed there for two days and had no major complaints. Nothing special, but clean and modern. 

The location is good, not right in the city center but a lot of sights within walking distance or just a short drive away. 

We liked the free cookies that were offered all day long. The atmosphere (very crowded and really icecold because of the air conditioning system) in the lobby where they serve breakfast is not very nice, the food was alright, but nothing to get excited about.

Decent hotel for a short stay

We so enjoyed beautiful Singapore and this hotel made it even better. The staff is outstanding.  They do anything to make you comfortable!  Great location and wonderful breakfast. We will be back again!  Thanks Hotel Bencoolen.

Wonderful Stay

We stayed at the hotel during our one-day layover in Singapore after disembarking a cruise ship. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We arrived early in the morning and were able to check-in early. The hotel is located in the downtown area, so we expected to see smaller rooms but were pleasantly surprised. The (loft) room we had on the 6th floor was cute, clean and bright with everything we need: kettle, coffee and tea bags for guests and wifi. The bathroom was very clean with all the toiletries provided. The main lobby has a small sitting area across from the reception area with coffee/ tea and cookies available 24 hours. Breakfast is available in the morning although we didn’t stay for it. The location is very convenient with short walking distance to MRT and Chinatown Point. It’s about 25min taxi drive from Changi Airport. We definitely will consider booking this hotel again for a future visit to Singapore.

Great location and good price

I arrived early around 9am and was allowed to check-in immediately. Loved the room from the get go! It was spacious, clean, smelled good, felt homey and had everything I needed! All the staff were friendly and very helpful. Breakfast range was basic but suffice and nice. There's a nice sitting area next to the pantry on 2nd floor to chill and relax (right across my room #206). Very comfortable bed and linens, plenty of storage, great rain shower. Bathroom has glass walls with binds. Wifi was great but you would need to ask for a different password for each device. Location is superb! 5min walk to MRT and buses, 10min walk to Clarke Quay Central, Chinatown Point, SongFa Bakuteh and Chinatown area. Two 7/11s just around the corners. 20-25min taxi ride to the Science Centre and Changi airport (S$ 20-23). After check-out, the staff held my bags, let me use an extra toilet to refresh myself after a day out and have some cookies and tea/coffee before leaving to the airport. I really enjoyed my stay at Bencoolen on Hongkong Street Hotel and would definitely book again! Keep up the good work!

LOVE IT!!!

I stayed two nights in a gorgeous double bed room 405. The entrance was spacious, adequate storage with locked safe, tea and coffee in room, bar fridge, TV. Spacious shower with good amenities. Very comfortable bed and blackout curtains, I had an amazing sleep. Breakfast is simple fare, a selection of cheeses, sausages (which looked bland however were quite good), eggs, cereals, toast, chocolate pastries (very good), a coffee machine, orange juice (watery). Fried rice was also served one morning, vermicelli noodles then next. This is served in a 'cafe' which is located opposite reception, that has about 15 seats - it's a bit inconvenient when seats are full, you can't access the space when you want to. Biscuits located in this area are also free anytime. This hotel is walking distance to Clarke Quay MRT (a bit inconvenient if travelling with oversized bags due to the lack of direct street crossing), and also a leisurely stroll to Chinatown. I suggest going to Maxwell's Food Centre as an alternate breakfast venue. It was great they hold bags after check out as I was able to get another 10 hours out of visiting Singapore.

Fabulous location and room, plan for breakfast elsewhere

Small hotel which is very nice. Excellent location very close to the Subway (Clark Quay) and in walking distance for many places of interest. Good breakfast with danishes, eggs, fruits, cereals, salad, cheeses, toasts, and a hot dish of rice or pasta. The room was large enough for two with a correct bathroom. Rain shower and good quality amenities. Comfortable bedding. A pantry is available for guests. There is a very nice jacuzzi on the 5th floor. Cable TV could have a more generous offer (only a dozen of channels). A place I would probably choose again for a future stay in Singapore.

Perfect

We stayed 5 nights and could not have been happier with the location. The room was a touch small but the bathroom was a good size. Breakfast was OK. On the last day we had a midnight flight and they stored our luggage and let us use their showers before heading to the airport. Really great service. And the price was exceptional for such an expensive city.
