We stayed at the Auberge du Sud for several nights.
The manager was friendly, room clean and the wifi worked.
Location is excellent. There is some noise from school kids during the days, but it's quiet enough at night.
Well recommended.

Nice place

This hotel is okay – but not much more than that. It has a good location and surprisingly strong Wifi. There is airconditioning as well. But what I do find ridiculous is that the owner stashes all the ac-remotes behind his desk and charges you 5,000 (7€) per day if you want to use them.

I found that the rooms were also quite dark. In fact, the entire hotel is a bit bleak. I was the only guest when I stayed there, which I found odd. Plus the bathroom is quite unhygienic, it smelt like something had died in there prior to my arrival.  

I would not call this place a hostel either. The rooms are basically hotel rooms. It's not a dormitory-style hostel like you normally see. 

All in all, this hotel suits the purpose, plus it's wifi is a nice bonus. But you can get so much nicer accommodation elsewhere in town. It would be a shame to miss out on Saint Louis' more charming B&B's.

Fine but Better Elsewhere

Hotel really had good location in old part of town, very close to tourist information center and beautiful view on river. It has 1 special balcony that offered amazing view on sunrise. Staff is very helpful and polite and rooms are very nicely decorated. Breakfast is simple coffee, tea, jam and butter.

This hotel is located a few blocks south the of the bridge in a quiet waterfront location. Like most of Saint-Louis the neighborhood is pretty beat up but don't let that put you off most of the city looks like this. 
Rooms were a decent size and the few I saw were a bit dark. Beds were comfortable, and although we did not need them in October, there were mosquito nets on them. 
Breakfast was Spartan, baguettes and Nescafé with excellent butter. I booked a room for 21,000 cfa and was told on arrival that my booking did not include air conditioning. The ac is installed in all the rooms but the manager wanted an additional 5000 cfa for the remote. It did not seem like a hustle, but in 95 degree heat, this sort of stuff can set you off. Anyway I paid it and need to complain to bookings.com for their oversite.
The place was cleanish in an otherwise filthy town and a fair deal at the price.
