La Résidence du Fleuve

The previous reviews and photos for this listing (and this one) are for Hotel Gite d'Etape (not Residence Du Fleuve Annexe, which I've never heard of and I've lived in Senegal for 10 years & travelled to Richard-Toll often). Hotel Gite d'Etape is by far the best place to stay in Richard-Toll. I'm happy to finally see it on here (although sad it's under an incorrect name) because I've tried several times over the past year to get Trip Advisor to add a listing, but was always told it's not a real hotel, which I promise you, it is. There is literally no nicer place to stay in Richard-Toll, which is a dusty, hot, local Senegalese market town. The map location as shown is slightly incorrect, the hotel is situated on the main Senegal River one street off the main road (N2), anyone in town can tell you where it is and there's a sign on the main road. My husband and I have stayed here many times over the years, and have always found it to be excellent...it has an old colonial feel but the rooms were nicely renovated in 2016 and are all very modern, clean and up to date. Plenty of got water for showers and air conditioning has always worked well. I think there's wifi but can't remember for sure. There's a bar, lounge room with a pool table and TV, as well as the lovely pool & gardens. The dining room is nice with white linen table cloths and a beautiful view of the garden and swimming pool on the river, but menu choices are sometimes limited. However, they are always ready to provide dinner and breakfast and portions are good. They have a decent wine list and plenty of other beer and liquor choices. There's a dock with deck chairs on the river which is perfect for an evening cocktail with nice breezes. The staff are very helpful and always try their best. Can't recommend it enough! We're going again next week!
