Lake Ruhondo Lodge and Tented Camp

Had a great two-night stay at Ruhondo Beach Resort. 

Pros: 
- The location is excellent (right on Ruhondo Lake, with a beaut view of the volcanoes--Gahinga, Muhabura, Sabyinyo, and Bisoke on a clear day).
- The staff are friendly and helpful, and the service is good.
- The rooms are clean.
- The vlaue is great (especially right now, with lower prices due to the pandemic).
- The complimentary breakfast is good, with omelletes, fruit, sambusas, coffee, tea, etc. 
- There are plenty of outdoor seating options, in hammocks, loungers down by the lake, etc. 

Cons: 
- I'm not sure if they have any kind of quiet hours (i.e., we heard a group partying until the early hours one of the nights we were there). 
- The pillows are more akin to rocks than anything fluffy, so if you live in Rwanda, you might want to bring your own. 

Extras: 
- Definitely park by the power plant and opt for the boat ride over; the road to drive there is long and rough. 
- The birding around the property is lovely, so be sure to take a camera and pair of binoculars if that's your thing. 

Would highly recommend for a nice getaway from Kigali and would go back for sure.

Relaxing Lakeside Spot

Very serene, chill and breath taking views and landscape. The stuff is nice and welcoming, great for relaxing as well outdoor activities; mountain biking, hiking, canoeing....for active sporty guests.

Amazing place for holiday

my recent stay at ruhondo beach resort was fantastic the staffs are amazing rooms have been comfortable as well as their restaurant mainly fresh fish let me say about how greenly the island is and the boat tour it was superb.i can't wait to camp for my next trip. thanks to all!

A perfect stay

We arived straight from Kigali by 4x4 car, the roads were ok to drive. Driving here is longer than their recommended way of arriving (boat) but it was a very beautiful roadtrip. Food was great and the staff lovely.
We slept in a room but there are tents and campsites available. They were responsive by email and whatsapp so we could ask for corrections on the road.

Very hospitable and relaxing place

Adventurously, I have never been enjoyed a place like I did at Ruhondo Beach Resort!Quite calm and enthusiastic place to relax! A bunch of professional workers that are doing everything possible to be served excellently! well cooked meal, availability of variety of drinks, rooms well equipped at maximum level.... A trip boat in Ruhondo lakes full of stories of diversity of people..... I swear, If I have to choose where to go for my next trip, I would never hesitate to go at Ruhondo Beach Ressort! Big up to Nepo and Kiza for the good job you are doing! deliver my excellence notes of thankful to all workers around there! Keep following the excellence, success will chase you soon!

SPLENDID Place to Relax

We visited the resort for 2 nights. Despite our very late arrival the boat was waiting for us to pick us up. When we came to the resort the fire was nice and warm to sit around and they even served us dinner (23:00!!) the rooms are typical Africa, no lt really fancy and a bit outdated but the staff is the location and the unbelievable views make up for that. Great value for money! Highly recommend!!

Visit to the twin lakes

I was there with a group of friends from work. Did not stay overnight. Just stopped by for lunch after taking a boat from the Power Station across the lake. The boat docks at the small beach at the foot of the hill/hotel. The property is enormous and situated on top of the hill overlooking the lake. We love the grilled tilapia which almost all of us in the group ordered for lunch. The manager (Joie) Dorothee was very friendly and professional. She gave us an introduction to the property and restaurant. There are tents that you can rent for $20-$30 per night with an impeccable view of the lake.

Great vantage point overlooking Lake Ruhondo

I stayed at Ruhondo Beach Resort with my husband and 2 kids last weekend (ages 6 and 8). The setting is beautiful, the beds and mosquito nets are very good, and the place has potential - so here are some simple suggestions for improvement. 1) ARRIVAL: We communicated with the staff via email, yet we were not told we must take a boat to arrive there, nor where to park the car - my husband discovered this by accident on-line. This is something which is easy to communicate to guests in the first email exchange. 2) RESTAURANT: Put a few more tables in the restaurant area to accommodate guests - currently there is one table that seats 6, 2 tables that seat 4, and a few small tables with couches that would be more appropriate for having only drinks. This was complicated if the regular tables were full - there was not an adequate place for us to eat. Also - it took us 2.5 hours to get our lunch one day, even though we were not eating at the usual lunch time, and there was only one other group of guests waiting for food. We know we have to order ahead, which we did, but 2.5 hours was excessive. Also - breakfast was challenging - no one was available in the restaurant area until 8 AM, at which time we ordered breakfast which took around 45 minutes to prepare. For adult travelers this may not be a big deal - but it's complicated when traveling with kids. 3) TOWELS: It's the rainy season now and so it's hard to get laundry to dry quickly, we get that. But we had 2 towels for a family of 4 for a 2-night stay. One towel per person would have been better. 4) ACTIVITIES: This is obviously an ideal place to just relax, but we suggest making a simple map for a "walk" around the area nearby - such a map could even be posted beside the bar area, just laying out the route one could take to get good views. The views are terrific if you go behind the resort, into the village area - it would have been nice to know if there's a way to make a loop, or if you just have to turn around. Also - it seems the resort has canoes, but this could be more formalized with more info given to guests when they arrive.We also suggest the resort organizes a camp fire at night for guests - this would have been a good way to enjoy the environment and would have been an opportunity to sell beverages / increase revenue for the restaurant. 5) CUSTOMER SERVICE: Staff are friendly, but they could benefit from some sort of hospitality training. When we had trouble finding a table to sit at in the restaurant, the staff didn't seem to have ideas on how to solve the issue. 
We had a nice stay - just offering our ideas to improve the place.

Could be much better

Unbelievable beautifull. You are just in the middle of the Twin Lakes. 2,5 hour from Kigali and only 30/45 minutens from Volcano NP where you can go for the mountain Gorillas. For me the best place of Rwanda in the middle of the Twin Lakes and surrounded by the great green Hills. Cottages and tenst just at the Lake shore with all service at hand for a affordable price. Can it be better?

It is just a unknown place in paradise!

Jean Nepo and his staff are the nicest persons in Ruhondo. They are friendly and helpful. The food was good and affordable (especially the breakfast). The rooms are paradise. The view is unbelievable everywhere. There is many places where you can have a walk or rest.
Thanks for this peaceful moment in Ruhondo.
