I felt at home during my first few minutes at the 5 Swiss Hotel.  The staff treated me like family and I will never forget all of the wonderful people I met.  Nadine, you will always be in my heart, as well as Sylvere, Mya, William.  I could just keep going.Good food in the restaurant for dinners, wonderful breakfasts, and lovely grounds.  A short walk to the free zone, which is great for shopping, grabbing some local food, or just walking around.  Any day trips that you might want to take can be set up with the staff.  Even the drivers they send you out with are helpful and kind.I highly recommend this hotel for your stay in Kigali.  You will not be disappointed.  I think fondly of my stay often.

The hotel is in one of the best possible locations, right in the center of Kigali, close to the main institutional buildings, international hotels and shopping areas. The area is totally safe and the hotel is very quiet and offers a peaceful atmosphere thanks to its lush garden. The hotel offers a restaurant on the back terrace: the choice of dishes is not wide but the quality of food is excellent and prices are reasonable. I had a very large room with a kitchenette and a small private garden terrace, the bathroom was very simple and essential but clean and fucntional.The real plus of the hotel, though, is its staff: everyone is extremly kind, professional, always smiling and ready to listen and satisfy all requests (taxis, tips about restaurants, trips, shopping and other practical details). Having to wake up and leave very early for some day trips, a packed breakfast and lunch was provided according to my preferences.Though staying only 4 nights at the hotel, at the end of my stay, when saying goodbye to the staff, I felt I had been among friends rather than in a hotel.The negative points are minor ones but ...the furniture in my bedroom was a bit dated, but I saw the other ones and, though smaller, they had a very modern look; also, the mosquito net in my room could not be used properly because of the size of the bed: it was impossible to isolate the bed completely.

All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. My room was spacious, comfortable and quiet. The grounds are small but are filled with beautiful flowers, fruit trees and herbs. I enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant, with soft jazz playing and delicious food. I love the vine covered exercise area tucked in above the parking lot. There is plenty of room for drivers to pull in, turn around and exit. This was my first time staying at 5 Swiss and I plan to return on my next teaching trip to Rwanda.

If you are looking for a small, quiet hotel that mixes a more local feel with all the basic comforts you need when away from your own bed, go for this. 5 Swiss has truly the kindest staff I’ve ever met, and I enjoyed (and deeply benefitted from) the long chats with the local staff over breakfasts and dinners. The little restaurant is great - accommodating and delicious. (Breakfasts were not my favorite, but custom-ordering omelettes is the way to go.) The bed was so comfortable, and I was lucky to get a room with a balcony over the garden - what a nice way to wake up, with the sun coming over the hills. There is a small fitness room inside a garden - literally. So cute and fun. This is not a “luxury” hotel, but there was really nothing I needed that I didn’t have. The rooms are clean, simple, and comfy - I arrived at 3am after a 24-hour travel and was immediately ushered in, safe and sound. After a week, I didn’t want to leave, truly, and I hope to be back soon. Yannick, Nadine, Belize, Alex the driver, everyone else - you’re all amazing. Thank you for such a wonderful stay.

Favorite spot in Kigali 

Very helpful and friendly staff!!!! Great location and very calm premise. Highly recommended specially for business trips. The staff at the reception and bar are very supportive.

Excellent hotel, very clean, well located, great staff, great breakfast and food in general... the only But...would be to improve the lights in the room for reading and have more hangers or hooks to put clothes in the room and in the bathroom.

Ask for a room with a view on the garden as they also have rooms that look on the parking which are quite dark, especially because you have to close the curtains in order not to be seen. Otherwise it was a great place to stay in Kigali that I would surely recommend.

Excellent...But...

This is a very clean and confortable boutique hotel with the best price quality in town.

Beds are comfortable, everything clean. The restaurant is great, reasonably priced and very tasty. All of the staff accommodated every request we made. 

And I have to say, that if it wasn´t because of its owner, I wouldn´t have been able to get to know two amazing national parks. 

Only because of how helpful staff and owner were (they all got out of their way to try to help us constantly), I would give them an extra star in its hotel category.

My friend recommended it and the best price was on Hotels.com.It’s clean, modern and comfortable with friendly staff. Not stuffy at all.Well situated in Kigali and a good base for exploring further afield.A nice lounge and garden to drink a coffee while chatting to your friends.The bar and restaurant are reasonably priced and food is good. Breakfast is plentiful.

Great hotel in Kigali

I stayed here for 3 days for the quarantine requirement and really could not have been happier with the experience. I had been a bit overwhelmed by all the government approved hotel options, but based on my research (and the review of another person who quarantined here) I decided this would be the best place to stay in terms of quality and price.

The hotel arranged to have a driver meet me at the airport so after arriving a bit exhausted from Uganda, the whole transfer process was very smooth. They put me in a spacious room with a delightful balcony with a decent view. Room service was always a phone call away and the meals were always delicious (the steak w/ pepper sauce was a personal favorite). I never had to wait more than 20-30 minutes for food to arrive. The staff was all delightful and friendly even when there was occasionally a language barrier. The room was cleaned daily and there was always plenty of hot water for the shower. Considering the overall quality of the hotel and food, I found the quarantine daily cost to be very reasonable. I should also mention that the location is excellent, literally a 2-3 minute walk to the center. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.
