Yug Hotel

We decided to stay at Hotel Yug, due to it's proximity to the bus and train station.We arrived on a late flight, and took the # 1 bus from the airport, which stops in front of the Train Station. To find Hotel yug from the bus station, turn right on Chelyuskintsev Street, and cross the road at the stop light, continuing in a westerly direction. You will pass a pedestrian underpass on your right, then a huge shopping center. the next building which has the sign of a bank and ATM at the front is where Hotel Yug is located. Walk on the path to the left of the building until the main doors are reached on the right. There are quite a few blue signs with white writing stating "OTEAB", which is Russian for Hotel. Note that there are no signs in english. When we got to the elevators we were unsure what to do, and knocked on the door to the security guard's room which is opposite the elevator. We indicated that we were looking for a hotel, and he punched the elevator button to the top floor. The small reception area is 24 hours, and located a few steps in front of the elevator. Check in was efficient. We had a simple room with two single beds. We paid a small fee and did our laundry in the washer (soap was provided) and hung it on the racks provided. We had a good nights rest, but had to open the window as the room was not air conditioned. The bathrooms are shared, but were clean and in satisfactory condition. A simple breakfast is provided in the kitchen, and it has all the utensils that are required, including hot water. There was also a small reading room for relaxation. A refrigerator near to the check in desk had cold drinks, and there was also a display of snacks. We spent two nights here and had no complaints. I think that the name "Hotel" is a little misleading, and I would rate this as a very good hostel. We had stayed at many hostels on our travels through Russia, and this was of acceptable standard.
