We spent one night here taking a break from our Trans-Mongolian Railway expedition. The hotel was a short taxi ride from the station and close enough to the centre of town that we walked everywhere we wanted to go. In its day it would have been a very grand Soviet hotel - large lobby complete with gift store, real room keys hanging on numbered hooks, and a concierge sitting in his own booth with nothing to do, large staircase central, wide corridors, huge rooms with aged furniture and fittings. BUT the reception staff were super friendly, very helpful and either spoke good English or knew how to use Google Translate with their cellphones. Breakfast was included in the room rate, nothing special but totally adequate to start the day with. The rooms were clean and beds comfortable, and the Wi-Fi very good. This grand Soviet hotel was worth the visit just to experience something of the past. Its position close to the centre of town made it a great place to stay.
