Potcoava Mountain Hideaway

In the mide of the hills, right when you start seeing the mountains you enter the “Potcoava” land. Great hosts, a wonderful view, horses to ride, goats for fresh milk and cheese, dogs and cats, a real ranch of modern times. I loved the shole experience and definitely recommend it for weekend stays, for kids camps, for leadership retreats or team buildings!

Awesome location, great for families with kids. Plenty of things to do over the weekend. Clean rooms and the food is extraordinary. Swedish buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner where you can always find something suited for everybody. Horses are very gentle suited for kids and beginners who are willing to be initiated into horseriding.

I came to this place with my boyfriend and we had a lovely stay! The staff was extremely nice! The food was delicious and made with locally grown ingredients. The territory is quite big and located right on a peak overlooking the mountains. 
The rooms are clean, but they could have been a little better equipped, for example with a table and glasses.

I was here with my collegues for two days and it was fabulous. The room has big windows to mountains, balcony, nice bathroom and friendly bed. Thanks a lot for food, it was delicious, they have a great chef which prepared just delicious romainian cuisine. They have a place where you can practice horse riding and a place where you can make a camp fire.

If you look for a place to escape with your family this could be the solution for you. 
First ALL the food is cooked in-house and served fresh every day. All the ingredients are natural from the area. 
You have fresh water to drink from a spring. You have fruits every day at your disposal and everyday fresh baked bread. 
The rooms are not very big but are organized in such a matter that you can fit 4 people in it ( 2 kids and 2 adults) and from April 2018 they will have family rooms with special kids fitted beds. 
You will love the air, the view, the colors and the road to this place. 
You have special personal for you to interact with the horses ...for a trip, for training, for learning. 
You can take yoga lessons, a sauna or a hot bath in a huge wood thing :)))
The kids will have entertainment and different creative workshops. 
And the food, did I mention the food? Very good, very tasty, fresh, traditional. 
And it’s only 2 hours from Bucharest. 

Excellent services in top of the mountains,  nice view and beautiful horses. You can stay here, out of space and time 😁.
The road till here is very good, for any kind of cars. They have bikes, horses and they will give you good infos about hiking routes around. 

We stayed 2 days and had good authentic Romanian food, people were very nice, rooms were very clean, with comfortable beds and fair prices. Beside we loved to see (and feed) the beautiful horses. Overall we had a very relaxing time here.

Good things first. The location is great, very remote, in the middle of nowhere, perfect for relaxing and for those who just want leave the madding crowds. Quiet and serene. The landscape is lovely, just hills, mountains and forests as much as you can see. There were a lot of families with small children, so I guess they're an important target costumers for this villa, along with quiet vacation seekers and horse lovers. Place is child friendly. The horses are gorgeous and well taken care of. Seen a lot of kids taking riding lessons. They have 2 friendly cats and 2 nice dogs. Bike rental on site; hills great for biking. What I liked most was the fact that the "spa" area - Jacuzzi and sauna (included in room rate) - can be accessed only with appointment at the reception, so that you get to use them privately (with your group/family). The sauna works on wood (the minus is that it takes 2 h to get hot, the plus is that it's the best kind of sauna and you can listen to the fire while using it). Rooms are simple but nice and clean, rustic design (all wooden objects are made by a designer); bathroom big, modern and clean. No TV (great idea). Big balcony. Very nice and helpful staff.

Some complaints. Food quality could be better, for the price paid. For a rustic getaway I would have expected some extra tasty home made food. Only one diner was memorable. One diner was almost not eatable. Only 2 options per meal, you have to eat the daily menu. There is no transparency regarding the extra costs, nobody told us the hours for the meals or how much the food costs (25 lei/breakfast/p and 45 lei/lunch or dinner/p)...we were very confused the first evening, almost missed dinner. Also, neither the costs, nor the eating hours are written anywhere and if you're hungry outside eating hour there are no snack options. You can't bring food or water from outside, but they don't sell 2 l bottled water. The biggest bottle of water is 1 l, sparkling. I imagine it's difficult for families with kids or if you drink a lot of water or don't like sparkling water. Mattress  and pillow were uncomfortable, but this may be just my opinion. Also, be careful what road you take, GPS took us on a dead end rural road (via Izvorul Alb), while there is an asphalt A++ road ( via Pucioasa, Fieni, Runcu from Bucharest). Could not connect to free WiFi.

One of the biggest problem we have faced was by far the staff. And unfortunately not just the staff, the owners made us also feel very unwelcomed. They didn't greet once even though we meet them several time a day. at arrival, we asked sheets for the baby bed we asked and paid for nobody ever came to bring them. everything we have asked for was not offered. There are some rules you are obliged to keep (house shoes all over the place for example), but all the house rules are just for guests, the owners just ignore them :-)
The living room is totally undersized if all the guest are there, and that is pretty much what you can do on a rainy day.

By far the biggest problem is the food, which is below any average. The ingredients they are using are just the cheapest ones they can get and you instantly see that. Now even the bread saved us, as it is also very bad. 
And all this for a lot of money, compared to the other similar places in Romania. Totally not worthed.
The only nice things are the horses and the surroundings

Poor experience for an expensive price

Nice for a family vacation, but pretty remote if you have any problems with the children, and the rooms are not cleaned every day, which is a major disadvantage when travelling with babies/toddlers. Totally worth it if you are passionate about horseriding, otherwise not so much.
