Aldeia do Priolo

We stayed in Casa do Arco for 5 nights as part of a split trip to Sao Miguel (we spent the other 5 nights at the western end of the island). Sara and her team were charming and the cottage was finished to a high standard - the daily delivery of breakfast bread rolls were a real treat (and a surprise!) as well as a mid-stay clean (new bedding and towels) by Mrs Inès, the lovely local cleaning lady (she loved to practice her few words of English in exchange for you learning some Portuguese) We did a good bit of hiking whilst we there but also visited a number of places throughout the eastern half of the island (do go to the Centro Ambiental do Priolo, up behind the house - a must for bird lovers - where they are helping to protect the endangered Azorean bullfinch, 'priolo'). Our neighbours who were staying in a couple of the other cottages belonging to the same business, toured the whole island from there, no problem but just be aware it's a good 1.5hrs drive to the other end taking the fastest route, so you will need a hire car! Great place to stay - thank you again to the Aldeia do Priolo team!!
