This quest house is very beautiful. We stayed here the majority of our time whilst on our Honeymoon in Madeira. We had opted for the four poster bed with sea view room. When the taxi driver dropped us off we were greeted with the owners. They spoke little English, however enough to be very welcoming and friendly. They showed us to our room which was upstairs and when we opened the door they had placed a bottle of champagne, chocolates and Madeira cake as a surprise for our honeymoon. This was such a nice touch. On the upstairs hall area they have a fridge that they stock water and beer for you to buy. They even allowed us to use this fridge for food etc. The same hall area has an outdoor area which is a large balcony with sea view. We sat here many nights’ admiring the sea and beautiful surroundings with wine. The Room The room was nice, especially the bed that faced the window, meaning every morning we woke to blue skies and the sea which was a dream! The room has tea and coffee making faculties, however no milk so we bought some from a local shop and stored it in the fridge. One thing to mention is that in these bathrooms they don’t like you to flush your toilet paper so be aware you will need to put your toilet paper in the bin or in scented nappy bags that we bought with us(this is not the case for alot of places in Madeira, just in the more local / non tourist areas) Location One thing to point out this is not near the center of Funchal. We caught the number 20 / 21 bus right outside the guesthouse every day to go into the center. Each bus ride regardless of where your going is 1.95 euros per person each trip, so we bought a 1 DAY Giro card from a supermarket that cost 5 euros (can get these all over the place) and that does unlimited trips on the local buses (so this includes buses to where the cable cars, basket rides, Reids palace etc are) If you’re doing more than 2 trips on a bus each day its worthwhile getting this card. The bus ride takes around 5 mins to get to Funchal center. Now some people have stated in reviews you may be able to walk it..I wouldn’t chance it! Me and my wife are in early 30s and keen hikers and although you may be able to walk it to Funchal center as its all downhill, the walk back would be way too steep and there are many windy roads all uphill which would make it very difficult. Nearest restaurant is 20 mins walk away, but since this is all on a huge hill its not a pleasant walk there so use your bus pass. Local shops There are 2 main shops on the same road literally 2 mins walk away. They stock basic food and drink, oh and their shops are also bars so you can drink beer on tap in there and also the famous "PONCHA"! If you want PONCHA try it in the local shops as its only 1.50 euros (cheapest we found) and its all made fresh in front of you, oh and they sometimes serve it with free hot chicken wings for free as a nibble. Breakfast They ask you what time you want it which is helpful. They served it outside when it was nice days. This was very pleasant as you can admire the pretty garden flowers and sounds of the birds whilst you eat. It consisted of rolls, meat , cheese, and the best scrambled eggs ever. You also have access to the fruit bowl, cereal and jams 24 hours a day too. There were 2 occasions our tours started early and therefore needed it served early and there was no hassle, it was all served on time which was a great help :) WIFI I know some reviews stated it wasn’t that great in your rooms, however I noticed that there are WIFI boosters in every room now and they really do help. We never had any issue with uploading pics etc it was really fast WIFI too everywhere in the guesthouse. Communication Now one thing I must point out here is that if you email this guesthouse, it’s the daughter that answers you’re email. She is by far the BEST customer service I’ve ever received via email from any company. I would ask her a simple questions and she was prompt with replying and gave so much information. Nothing was too much hassle and she spoke amazing English so if you ever need in depth information you can email her. This place is a beautiful place featuring beautiful hosts! If you want peace and quiet and pretty scenery like the sea and their amazing garden then this is the place for you! We paid around £60 per night with breakfast and this is 100% worth it! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone staying in Madeira.
