Casa Petrus Guterri

My wife and I stayed at Casa Petrus Guterri on our last night in Portugal.  Castelo Novo will forever be a special place for us because of the fabulous people in the village and the hospitality of the house.  Maria, Casa Petrus Guterri's welcoming commitee and hostess (not to mention owner) was welcoming and made us feel at home.  We stayed in a room on the highest level of the home which had spectacular views of the village and valley below.  A simple elegant breakfast was served in the morning and the castle remains were only steps away.  Thank you so much Castelo Novo and Casa Petrus Guterri.  Maria, you and your home made my wife and I very happy.  Warm regards!

Friendly, family run hotel in Castelo Novo, one of the historic villages of Portugal, at the foot of the Serra da Gardunha. The area is well known for cherry trees which were in bloom in March. The building itself is one of the most attractive in this beautiful village.

As soon as we arrived we knew we had made an excellent choice for our stay in Castelo Novo.
The lady owner is one of the most charming people we have ever met. The property has been renovated to the highest possible specification without destroying the charm and the traditional feel of the home. We were shown around with such pride and to be honest we wished we could have stayed longer than the one night! We were escorted through the village by the owner to find the restaurant for dinner, she did not want us getting lost.Breakfast was a delight with many personal touches. It is also a nice experience to walk around the village.

A beautifully restored building in the heart of this quaint, very unspoilt village. We were the only four foreigners in town. Had a lovely meal in the only restaurant which was closed that night but opened just for us. Rooms spacious, spotlessly clean and nicely fitted. For the light sleeper the bell in the church next door chimes on the hour but we felt it added to the charm of the place :-)
A glorious spread for breakfast served by the owner, a lovely lady with enough English for those that don't speak Portuguese. And, as others have said, almost impossible to find, but worth the effort when you get there.

Easy to locate. Beautifully restored property. Gracious host. Room was on the top floor with a magnificient view over the village. Generous sized room with a WC of high finish. Breakfast was delicious and very generous. View from the dining table is outstanding. Cozy fireplace for an evening dring and a chat. This place is ideal for a group of families traveling together. Madam Maria is a generous host.
Those with weak joints be warned that the place has many stairs. During my one night stay there was a problem with the WiFi and it remained down. Drove down to Fundao and sat in a cafe to get my office work done. I understand that this problem was an exception which of course may happen. There is one restaurant in the village which opens for lunch with decent food. While Fundao has a couple of restaurants they do not surpass in quality the one in this village.
Surely worth a one night stay!
