Waksman is a hotel in a nice old building, charming and pleasantly located in the middle of the old town center. Quite a task for the navigation systems to get there. Officially you are not allowed to get there by car, you risk a fine by doing so. But it is possible! . Luckily the hotel offers you acces to a nearby parking for only 30 PLN per day. The reception is staffed for 24 hours and we were welcomed by a friendly lady. 
Our room on the front side of the building was very old and not up to date. To name a few things: One curtain was missing, there was no fridge nor possibilities to make coffee or tea in the room. One of the bedsheets had a hole in it and was too short to cover the matrasses. (They had put two matrasses on top of each other!) The blanket was also too short. The douchecabin was dirty and the hair dryer broken. In short: 1 star for this hotel is sufficient.

Lublins oude centrum, de moeite waard.

The hotel is in perfect place, just in the heart of old town, there are most tourist attractions around and many good eating places. A room is very nice and comfortable. Staff both days was very friendly and helpful. 
The advice for travelers by car -  we reserved a parking place, it is near the hotel, but we haven't got directions in advance, so had difficulties with arriving and parking. We used hotel address on GPS and occurred in the middle of the old town, there were many traffic restrictions. However, the hotel and the parking place have different address, so, ask the parking address in advance.

Nice place with arriving diffculties

There's a lot to like about the Waksman - fundamentally, you're staying in a creaky, antique guesthouse that's high on character and charisma: in my case, lodging in a room flushed in deep scarlet colours, I wasn't sure if I'd woken up in a hotel that looked like a brothel, or a brothel that looked like a hotel. In many aspects, that's part of its quite eccentric appeal. 

Further points for a location in the heart of old town, as well as prices (approx 175 zloty on my visit) that make it an absolute steal. Negatives are awarded for slooooooow internet that made it entirely impractical for work, a rather basic bathroom and a design that's starting to feel a little too faded. I'd love to see a fully-fledged update to turn this into the kind of frilly boutique stay it has the potential to become. 

Overall though, it's great that Lublin's old town offers such a bargain find, and if nothing else, it's a brill alternative to the more uniform hotels - you cannot accuse the Waksman of being bland.

Bags of character but a renovation would be welcome

Being on the main street of the old city is a bonus. Finding the hotel and carpark is very difficult, you cannot unload the car at the door. The room is not modern and needs updating, also the bathroom and shower. The shower unit is handheld because the bracket is broken. No kettle in the room. TV is too small and difficult to operate. Room not refreshed every day. A very small breakfast room but is OK as it is included in the price. A small selection of food. You are offered hot scrambled egg or sausage.

Historic location

The Waksman is certainly unique. It feels more like a museum than a place to stay. Except for the suit on the top floor, everything is tiny; the rooms, the dinning area, the halls. Breakfast is quite meager and overall service is wanting. Much needed to be updated and fixed for this hotel to be recommended. However if one doesn't mind all the above inconveniences, the location is very good - in the heart of the atmospheric old city.

An antique hotel, charming and needing an update

Waxman is a charming little hotel in the old town of Lublin. All of the restaurants and museums are at the doorstep. My room was on the first floor, facing to the back, and despite the lively nightlife and music, there was no noise in the room at all. The staff is very friendly, happy to help with anything you can ask. The breakfast is continental, with basic stuff you need but in addition to that, they serve delicious freshly made scramble eggs. The only improvement in the room would be one more blind curtain in the room. The curtains didn't cover the window properly.
