Stara Szkoła Architekci

On our first trip to Poland, we combined a lively city break in Gdańsk with a five night stay in Stara Szkola Architeki, in the Masurian Lake District. This place is balm to the nerves after the heat and noise of Gdańsk in August. The setting is on beautiful Lake Jagodne and the building itself has been lovingly restored by its owners over the years. The interiors are a combination of antique furniture mixed with 21st century comfort and the vibe is relaxed. We stayed in the big loft conversion, which was spacious and cool even in the summer heat. There was lots of storage space for our clothes and a comfortable bed with pretty bed linen. We had a spotless and modern private shower room (some of the bathrooms at Stara Szkola Architeki are shared so you need to check this when you are booking) and access to the guest’s shared kitchen, as well as our own fridge on the landing outside. The hosts offer breakfast, but you have the option of getting your own breakfast __ which we did, enjoying it at the big dining table provided in our room. The owners, Wojciech, Anna and Amelia were lovely and so friendly and accommodating. Amelia is a translator and speaks perfect English __ which was great for us as we hadn’t a word of Polish and were initially a bit nervous about coming to stay in such a rural area. Which brings me to talk about the area itself ..... if you love nature, this is the place to visit ! There’s a sandy trail behind the house that leads to the forest, where we saw deer, hawks and lots of hares .... and right outside the house there’s a stork’s nest ! Then there’s the lake, with a small public beach where you can swim and sunbathe and the resort towns of Gizycko and Mikolajki are only a 25 minute drive away. Stara Szkola Architeki is the perfect place for chilling out, soaking up the beauty of the Lake District and if you like quirky and beautiful interiors this is the place to stay. We loved it.
