Nice rooms, friendly service and complete amenities. Rooms are quiet, good size with wifi,  tv and minibar. Comfortable bed with crisp linnen, responsive water heater and comfy size tiolet and shower. Very good dining outlets also, roof deck pool and Exclusive Rooftop bar with impressive performers and unique cocktails.

The rooms are not missing anything and the staff is very friendly. The hotel is located right next to the main beach (2 min walk).The only downside with this hotel is that the restaurant is not open on Mondays. The rooms have aircondition, fridge, cable tv, wifi, hairdryer, safe and are bright and big.
Love this hotel!

If you are going to Ilo choose this hotel

I have to say I was there during off-season, so I admit that judging a summer hotel at that moment can be unfair. That said, it definitely looked that the best days of this hotel passed decades ago.

Starting with the good things: Impeccable rooms, modern and updated ground floor (reception area). Service is good as well.
The not great: It looks rundown, in need of maintenance. 

The location is nice in the sense that it has access to a beach, but that's about it. Going by foot anywhere in Ilo would be a long and not picturesque walk.

Grand days past long ago

i had a lot of expectation from ilo and they were totally wrong.... the sea in front of the hotel is turbid, the beach dirty and crowded, yes, it's outside the hotel, but.... 
the pool was ok, no showers to use... not very hygienic, the hotel doesn't have an elevator and none helped me with my heavy luggage... the room was ok, but there was a beetle....
but, it's true, for sure it's the best hotel in town!!!! it's not a joke!!!

not really a grand hotel

I have visited this hotel since 2008. However never have I experienced such bad service and abandonment of personnel. No water TV  or air-conditioning. No one but a scared young girl at the counter.  No one to complain to.  Smelly rooms with faulty faucets.  A complete mess of once nice hotel.  Awful experience for may 29 friends and I.

TERRIBLE NEW MANAGEMENT

First impressions said it all – Run for your life.  My online reservation was not recognized by the hotel, and I was told they did not work this International No 1 on-line travel service.  After waiting for 15 minutes for the manager to arrive to verify the reservation, which was ultimately acknowledged, I was told that they would not honor the price.  I was shown three available rooms, since the room I reserved they only had 4 of which 1 was currently available.  It became apparent as the stay progressed that much of the hotel has been closed off; likely due to in-operational conditions.  The first room had not been cleaned from the last visitor complete with soiled laundry and empty pizza boxes on the floor.  The next room was not the room I reserved and had no sheets on the bed.  When I pointed this out to the women showing me the rooms it did not seem to register that no sheets was a problem.  The third room was acceptable on first inspection so I took the room.  There is no elevator nor did any of the staff care to assist you with luggage.  Upon settling into my ocean view junior suite room I was not able to see the ocean from the bed side of the room as the light blocking blinds which were electric did not currently work so they could not be raised.  But you could see the ocean as long as you were on the balcony outside your room.  Half of the room was empty of any furnishings, and when I raised the issue with management that my room did not represent the photos posted on their website I was told that most of the photos on the website only pertained to the Presidential suite for which they had one.  So the other 50+ are not represented.  The room contained two bath rooms and for good reason.  There was only toilet paper in one of them so check before you drop.  The shower in one bath had no water and the water in the 2nd bath could not be regulated from ice cold to scalding hot.  There was no real need for a shower as the sink faucets in both rooms provided ample overspray to provide the shower for the room, mirror, floor and humans in close reach.  The sink faucets were a mismatch for the hotel era and were so clogged with minerals that the entire bath and any nearby guest received amble over spray and splash from the sink.  The photos of amenities on line looked professional and personal for the hotel which turned into foil pouches of H&S shampoo and no-name soap and conditioner.  Half the ceiling lights were burned out and the photos on several booking sites and the hotels personal website did not fairly represent the current condition of the hotel.  Inside the bath rooms the ceiling paint is cracked and peeling off in chunks.  There was no decorations in the room and two side chairs in the half empty room.  The entire hotel lacks any common theme or decorating era.  In one hallway there is an antique switchboard complete with wires and plugs.  No safety chain or deadbolt for the door and the safe did not work.  No instructions, phone card, television guide, etc. was anywhere in the room and no need to look for stationary or postcards as those too were striped.  It has been too long to remember the last hotel room which had bent wire hangers for your clothes.  The full service restaurant only served breakfast and a single lunch option.  The breakfast included was by no means a Peruvian style breakfast.  The substance they called ham was lunch loaf and the scrambled eggs I ordered came sunny side up and ultimately gave me stomach issues which ruined the rest of this trip.  The beach club next door played music on Friday and Saturday until 4AM and could not only be heard but felt in the room.  The hot tub was out of service and drained and there were only ducks and pigeons visiting the pool.  The hotel in its entirety was poorly managed for which service nor was hospitality part of their core mission or vision.  The hotel smells of mold, mildew, stale smoke, and dilapidation.  On the ocean side of the building at least half of the doors to the balconies have been boarded over.  Paint is peeling off the exterior walls and most of the exterior ceilings.  This is the only full service hotel in town so having a monopoly make take away incentives to improve. This is a hotel who obviously had it day in the sun but that day has long set and the current management needs to be honest with their representation of the hotel and the lack of services their guests should expect.  It took me another 45 minutes to check out partly due to the fact that the desk clerk did not know how to use either credit card machine which requires them to charge you in their own currency, but my check out was delayed more by the 5 interruptions for men who wanted to check out after I had already began my check-out.  Who says that women have come a long way, we are still 2nd class to men in this part of Peru.  The one person who was the bright spot was the waiter in the restaurant who truly wanted to serve and make you happy.  No need to leave the light on at this hotel as there are no guests showing up and there would not have been rooms available anyway.  I read the reviews and should have paid more attention but seeing is believing and this place will not be on the re-visit list.
