Stayed here for a couple of days. Rooms were extremely spacious and the staff were all nice and welcoming. Though I did not meet Shoaib at Reception during our check-in and out, he was absolutely fantastic and patient  in assisting me with my reservations before we travelled.

Pleasant Stay

Pros:
Large rooms, lot of chairs
Comfortable bed
Break fast was good, but limited options. The menu recycles frequently
Room service is prompt and good
Decent gym facilities

Cons:
Small bathrooms, bit outdated
Only 400ml of water provided complimentary every day
Indoor pool is very very small. Kids would enjoy it.
Pricy for a 2 star hotel

Good stay at an Average hotel

Stopped over on the way to Muscat and pleasantly surprised about the quality, service, and cleanliness of this hotel apartment. Very recommended for those needing a short stay on a long road trip. Breakfast was included in the relatively inexpensive rate and restaurant was very good

Amazing hotel

The hotel apartment  is one off the best I have stayed in the manager was very friendly and helpful the rooms are to a very high quality very clean.
It's  just off the main road there is parking 
Shop near by for little thing .
Wifi is very good and it is free.
I would recommend it to anyone the apartment I give it 5*

I have travelled to Oman for a work assignment & I was booked in here for a four week stay at the beginning of August 2015.
I should probably begin with the location; Sohar is a small, ancient port town/city in the Al Batinah North Governorate, in the Sultanate of Oman, approximately 200 Kilometers (130 Miles) to the North of Muscat. The (approx. 2 hour) drive from the airport is surprisingly easy, as the newly built Batinah highway is a direct route between Muscat & Sohar.
The Al Thuriah is situated at the northern most tip of Al Falaj township, just before the Industrial Port. In all honesty there isn't much here, as all amenities are thinly spread, with considerable distances between places of interest. I strongly advise obtaining a rental car & this is also surprisingly easy, providing you have the funds & relevant paperwork to do so. Most visitors from North America & Europe can obtain an Omani Driving license with ease (however the process is somewhat tedious - more about that later).
This hotel is ideal for a short stay or as a temporary base, if like me you're here for a considerable stay. The Al Thuriah is well staffed, clean & accessible, once you figure out the road system. It is a short drive to Sohar beach, the two main Malls (Safeera & Lulu) & other more high-end hotels (Crowne Plaza & Sohar Beach Hotel) if you wish to dine out & enjoy a few beers.
I found the front of house staff to be very helpful, polite & knowledgeable of the surrounding area.
The food at the Al Thuriah is of acceptable quality, although the menu is somewhat limited & developed to cater for the tastes of Eastern Diners - It didn't bother me, I like Indian & Arabic food. There are some Western dishes that are executed reasonably well. I would recommend using the room service & Al La Carte offerings, as the buffet in the dining can often be repetitive & crowded at times - this due to the fact that there are many expat contractors staying at the hotel.
I was pleasantly surprised with the room; I stayed in a studio apartment, which was adequate for a solo traveller. It was well appointed, with a decent bathroom & kitchenette area. Other amenities included ample storage (with hangers), iron/ironing board, free WiFi & full air conditioning. The room was cleaned regularly too. The hotel also has well equipped gym (which I used a lot because there is nothing else to). There are a few local convenience stores & about 10 minute walk away in either direction from the hotel & accessible ATM's a bit closer - That is of course if you can bear the heat during the day & stifling humidity at night (note that I did arrive here in August).
I had a very pleasant experience here & would return for a short stay, as I found it adequate for the purpose of my visit.

A few general notes on Oman:

Whilst the people here are very hospitable & most speak a good level of English, it's worth noting, that anything official takes time. I advise westerners especially, to be patient & understand that the municipal/national government departments are extremely bureaucratic. Expect long queues & considerable waiting times when obtaining the necessary documents required under Omani law (most of which are Royal edicts & are strictly observed). If like me, you are here for a prolonged stay e.g. a working visa, you will be expected to have a valid visa application approved before your arrival, undergo a medical checkup (sometimes two) & obtain a residency card & Omani driving license (if here longer more than 3 months). If you are planning day trips in to Dubai, be sure to ask the sales rep that your hire car is permitted to cross the boarder.
Taxis are available in Sohar; sometimes you will share with strangers, but most front of house hotel staff will know local taxi drivers & arrange for you. ALWAYS negotiate the fee before you get in the car. Most will try to over charge, so it's worth haggling.
Alcohol is widely available at most high-end hotels (4* & above) & is usually quite expensive, however some hotel managers have alcohol permits & can arrange for you, but be aware that they usually have a significant mark ups & spirits especially, could be dubious. 
From what I hear, there is only one special office at the Ruwi Police Station (near Muscat), where foreigners can obtain alcohol permits - again expect the usual bureaucracy & a sizable fee. Instructions can be found on the net.
