Ellingsens Pensjonat

This is a really well priced, charming hotel.  Delicious breakfast, great location for walking around the area.  Rooms are nicely furnished.  Ask for an en-suite, even though they are tiny, it is better than sharing a bathroom down the hall.

This is an excellent low cost, very clean hotel in a great safe location.

Our family of 2 adults and 3 kids spent 4 nights in Villa Maria ( new name for Ellingsens). 

Plenty of room for us.
1 bedroom with comfortable double bed, living room with sofa bed and an extra fold out bed.

TV, dishwasher, washing machine etc

The location is great between Frogner park and the Royal palace. 
Easy walk into centre.
Tram stops nearly outside the door.few

Holtegata is a lovely quiet street with several embassy’s and a nice selection of restaurants close by.

Breakfast is approx €10 for adults and €5 for kids.  Eat as much as you like 

We found Sally and Mark who run the place to be most hospitable, helpful and kind.

Sally recommended  2 very nice local restaurants. Lille Asian (€95) and Lorry (€160) for 5 of us with a couple of drinks.

If Villa Maria is good enough for Michael Palin you know it’s ok.  He stayed here in June- his photo is at reception

Centrally located, easy to find ( tram 19 from the central train station) and off at Rosenberg. ( less than 10 min). Superb shopping in Bogstadveien - near Frogner Park with the famous outside Vineland sculptures. 
Obliging staff , Lovely rooms. I chose to use bathroom outside my room, no problem 
Why spend thousands of crowns when you can stay in this beautifully kept mansion, including a pretty garden with seating arrangements ??

We had a pleasent stay at Ellingsens Pensjonat. We were 3 persons. 
The appartment contains: 
- A large livingroom with a kitchen and a fireplace.
- A bedroom with a double bed. 
- Bathroom with a shower and a washing machine.

The price is affordable. 

I can recomend this place. 

This was just what we were looking for.Nice quiet family hotel,with a generous breakfast.Do be aware its on a golf course,so you can watch people playing at breakfast.Perfect if you are a golfer.They have clubs to rent.

Not luxurious but clean and functional.  We arrived on a Sunday when the reception was closed but they had emailed instructions on how to get in.  We appreciated them letting us check in early.  Our room (205) had a private bathroom with a fully enclosed shower.  There wasn't much room around the sink to put our stuff, a minor inconvenience.  The room had a small balcony overlooking the garden.  It was warm while we were there so we had to sleep with the window and balcony doors open letting in some noise from the street.  Like many older buildings there was no a/c and no lift.  It was not close to many sights but the tram stop was a block away.  Bogstadveien, with restaurants and shops, is a few blocks away.  Breakfast was all right, breads, meats, cheeses, cereals, etc. but some of the plates didn't look clean.  Ellingsens was less expensive than any other place I considered in Oslo.  I thought it was a good value and would stay there again.

The location is great and check in was friendly and helpful. Our room no. 209 was a twin with shared bathroom. The bed (very comfortable) took up most of the floor space but once the wardrobe, bedside tables, writing table and chair, fridge and basin were included there was little room for anything else. The TV was a small cheap model and didn't work very well with the sound cutting out frequently. In the hallway (2nd floor) was a tiny toilet room, a shower room and a 3rd with a toilet and shower. 
Cleanliness and maintenance requires better attention - bits and pieces from a previous guest were found in a bedside drawer. The heater was hanging on the wall by one screw. A lightbulb had blown.
Our room faced the street and whilst you could hear the noise from passing trams it was not invasive.
Breakfast (additional cost) was quite OK if you like a continental style but perhaps those that like a cooked breakfast might be less happy.
Car parking is on the street and I was able to get a park directly opposite Ellingsens - its free between 8pm to 8am, otherwise Nok28 per hour or maximum Nok139 per day.

Having regard for other guest reviews we expected more than we got.

Shocked to find this still advertised as tourist accommodation. Great room, however, outside our room was a kitchen, brand new but filthy from recent use by people who were transient. Shared bathrooms, that were in shocking condition, I had to clean them just to use them! This accommodation appears to be a mix of short term tenants and tourists. The tenants clearly resented the holiday visitors, the guy my husband spoke to made that clear. We left before breakfast after my third bathroom clean and have not been able to get a refund on the 2 nights we didn't use (I have my own bathroom to clean, why should I clean up after people who have no idea of bathroom etiquette?). Is this tourist accommodation or rentals for short term tenants?

Great room but shared facilities left a lot to be desired!

The building was attractive, but our bathroom was smaller than in an airplane! Our kid’s room smelled of cigarettes, but the staff person kindly offered us free breakfast as compensation. Breakfast supplies ran out quickly, however. It was basically fine, but I would not stay here again.
