Nice and quaint hotel outside of Odda. Tyssedal is small and really not much there but it is great base for Trolltunga trek as shuttle bus pass by and it is only 20mins to P2. 

The hotel is located near historical hydro power station worth visiting for its architecture and on the fjord, and across the road is an industrial plant but I did not hear any noise. 

Rooms are simple and old style although the bathrooms have been renovated and are modern. Staff really helpful and friendly and breakfast was good, simple options; not extensive. Adjoining restaurant is fabulous, ate twice for dinner. Very comfortable beds and lovely to see the fjord view each morning. 

I feel this hotel has a lot of potential if a few more renovations can be done in the rooms. Things like a bit more amenities and attention to detail like providing kettle, tea/coffee cups, more electrical outlets, desk with light, quality cupboards and cups for brushing your teeth!!

Overall I really enjoyed the stay. I would add that as Tyssedal is outside of Odda, it is great if you have your own car otherwise really need to research bus timetables for Odda connections as they may not come too frequently on certain days. Hotel has trek clothing and equipment for hire also.

Enjoyed my stay

Nice room, maybe a little above average size for the country. Clean and updated bathroom. Excellent breakfast included, free parking. Best part was by far the view from the room. Across the street from the Trolltunga parking entrance, so it is super convenient if looking to hike. Dinner was good, but a little pricey.

We had our sons confirmation dinner at Tyssedal Hotel, with 26 guests. Excellent food and service. Claudia took care of everything, and made the day fantastic. She is professional and structured, and a splendid host. The hotel is perfect for arrangements, with fantastic atmosphere and beautiful scenery.

Fantastic hotel

We had booked two nights at the hotel as we were hiking Trolltunga and had been looking forward to staying at this hotel. We had decided to pay more for the fjord view, but had not realized we’d also get the industrial plant view/noise from the two plants just below the hotel. 

The plants operate on a 24/7 basis and it meant we would be woken up during the night when they were unloading big crates of rocks just below our windows. Unless you are a very heavy sleeper, then opt for a room in the back and avoid the noise!

Breakfast turned out to be a very odd combination of scrambled eggs, yoghurt and a sandwich - there are three different options to choose from. 

We ended up having dinner in the restaurant after a long day hiking and that was also a disappointment. I ordered the steak and when asked opted for medium/rare and it came out well done. I was just too tired to say something and just wanted to finish the meal. Please don’t ask how the meat is preferred, if the chef is not going to cook it like that. The BBQ chicken was a mess, but again we just ate it and went to bed.

We decided to skip breakfast on day 2 and just picked up something on the way.

This was our most expensive hotel during our holiday in Norway and the only disappointing one.

This really was a disappointment...

I stayed at this hotel for just 1 night in July 2020. When I arrived at the hotel there was no parking right outside the hotel, but they had a second car park just a couple of minutes’ walk from the hotel entrance. I made the booking on a hotel booking site and check in was fast and I got room 201 and the hotel wifi password.

I had ordered a single room and as expected the room was tiny. The room had wooden floor, light walls and contained a single bed, a small desk and chair, a TV and a small “wardrobe” at the entrance. The bedside table had a lamp that didn’t work, and it would have been great with more power outlets to charge various equipment. The bed was comfortable enough, but the duvet was a bit thin and I was actually a bit cold during the night. The view from the view from the window was toward greenery at the back of the hotel. 

The bathroom seemed to be quite new and it was modern and sleek with large greyish tiles and modern sink/toilet. The shower was also a modern solution with a glass panel and a soap dispenser on the wall for soap/shampoo. 

The hotel is in Tyssedal and there is not that much happening in this area. But the hotel has a restaurant and there is cod, chicken, vegan and beef options on the menu. The hotel is located close to the beautiful Sørfjorden with stunning mountains and waterfall. But having said that, the hotel is also right next to a couple of factories so the view from the hotel is not always picture perfect. 

I did not have time to enjoy the breakfast that was included so I can not comment on this. But the hotel has quite a lot of space on the lobby floor with beautiful lounges with a view of the fjord and mountains and with lots of art on the walls.

All in all: a great hotel if you plan to do hikes in the area (Trolltunga, Dronningstien, Buarbreen etc). The single room for me was perfect even if I find it to be a bit expensive for one. But it was a functional room for a night, nice bathroom, wifi that worked good etc. I would not mind staying at this place again.

Good hotel for a night

Tyssedal Hotel is a nicely located historic hotel.
The rooms are retro and quite small, but overall ok. The bathroom had a very strange smell. Breakfast was ok, for a fee you can make a lunch package.
They have a small sauna, which was nice after a hike.
Although it is relatively simple, it is the best hotel in the area.
It does not have an elevator.
The restaurant has really nice food with a view over the fjord!

This hotel seems popular with hikers / skiers has wooden floors make it a bit cold feeling. I had a single room which was very small ( not recommended )with a good sized bathroom. Has bar and restaurant and good sized lounge. Nice views. No lift is a problem and noise on the stairs early and late. Not able to add extras to the bill, pay as you go. No ice unless asked for. Car park is small, overflow down the street. Restaurant saving grace. Excellent dinner probably best in the area and good breakfast included. Food and drinks were expensive.

Traditional hotel ok for a night very good restaurant

I checked in this hotel with my family for one night as we are spending our summer vacation touring around Norway by car, booked it through booking.com, and upon arrival, I was surprised about the presence of a factory next to it! It’s such a bitty with the beautiful location and water view in front of the hotel, the receptionist was nice, polite and welcoming, speaking fluent english, the reception and lobby are very small, American Express card is Not accepted! No elevators present, you have to carry your luggage up to the first or second floor via the stairs, the room size was ok but extremely outdated and very basic, No air condition available, No mini bar, No safe box, the TV screen is very tiny, the bed including the mattress, duvet and pillows were of low quality and uncomfortable, one pillow is only available for each person, the bed linen used are rough and not soft! The curtains are thin and very old. The bathroom was large in size but outdated and old style, one soap liquid is only available (2 in 1) for washing basin and shower, No shampoo, hand lotion, shower cap .. etc.
The breakfast choices available are very limited and no table service at all!

Outdated hotel with No air condition, No elevators, Amex Not accepted!

We stayed 2 nights. Room was clean and spacious. Very good breakfast. Staff was very helpful.

My friend left something at the hotel room and did not notice until we checked out. We called the front desk and emailed them about it after and they were rude, unapologetic and simply terrible about fixing the problem. we believe they stole it and kept it for themselves. 

the hotel is also next to a big plantation / factory that has a lot of pollution. the air is super smokey. 

do not stay here ! they are crooks and terrible / rude service. definitely find somewhere else.
