Sven and his staff were incredible. Years of skill full craftsmanship has gone into creating handcrafted cabins and interesting fittings. Breathtaking setting surrounded by nature giving a sense of tranquility. Such dedication. We stayed in Raktu Cabin for two nights. 
The one downside is the fact the beds are small. There would easily be room for a queen or king size bed. Sharing a double bed with my partner is way too squashy.

Craftsmanship Masterpiece

So many magical moments. Silently rushing over the tundra with a team of excited dogs, the purple pastels and bright oranges of the arctic sky,  reindeer softly emerging from snow-clad birchwoods, salted lamb, lingonberry jam, sheer exhilaration.  Its hard to convey the joy and awe of a sled run with Sven Engholm. 

We were so well looked after by Sven and his friendly and talented guides Astrid, Maria, Emma and Carl, who were also great company. The food, accommodation and thrill were excellent. The Northern Lights surrounded by howling dogs, candle-lit sauna and puppy cuddling were just extras.? Physically quite demanding and not for the faint-hearted but utter bliss for the adventurer. All in all, an outstanding experience that we will never, never forget. A heartfelt thank-you from Scotland.

AN ARCTIC MUSHING MASTERPIECE - 3 DAY OVERNIGHT ADVENTUTE

We had been due to stay just one night here but due to short notice border closure to Finland ended up staying for two - what a happy accident. Because we had a whole day on site, we went on a training ride with the dogs on an ATV and also were recommended a fantastic short hike nearby (Haldi). The dog ride was one of the best things I’ve ever done.

The cabins are completely beautiful and works of art - we stayed in a large comfortable cabin (Danskar) with its own high spec bathroom and heated floor. The beds are hand carved with very comfortable linens. The cabin also had a very well stocked kitchen.

We ate dinner on arrival (plentiful portions of delicious reindeer stew with mash and salad, and fruit to follow) and had breakfast the following day (plentiful bread, cheese, meats, fruit, yogurt etc).

What made the place to special though were the lovely, welcoming and warm staff. They could not have been kinder or done more to give us such a great stay. Highly recommended - we hope to return for more adventures in winter. And the value was also simply fantastic for the experience.


Simply the best holiday experience ever

A great, short stay. The small cottage was excellent, nice and exciting. Quiet night, with all the dogs right outside. Would go again, and stay longer next time!

Exciting place to stay!

Th cabin was unique, comfortable and warm and we were lucky enough to be next to the dogs! We loved the little touches around the place.The food (dinner and breakfast we had)  was hearty and filling and served beautifully. 
We went dog sledding and led a team ourselves. It was a magical place with heaps of snow and blue skies. We toasted our sandwiches on an open fire for lunch (packed from the kitchen) and had drinks provided. The guide was ver knowledgeable about the dogs and how everything works and expeditions. He was lovely to talk to.  The dogs were really friendly and loved to run. We had the chance to play and cuddle with them afterwards.

Amazing

Our family of 10 stayed at this lodge. The rooms / suites are all 'hand made' by Sven & Krystal and the attention to detail stunning. Cabins are all different and they are warm and inviting. 

The winter scenery was amazing and I imagine in summer it must be equally nice. 

Dinner was real home cooked food - moose stew, excellent! Breakfast was a feast with Krystal's berry jams, rubarb, wonderfull cheese, heaps of smoked salmon, cold cuts, fruit and freshly baked bread. 

If you want a real Norwegan experience then this is the place for you - winter or summer. Sven is an 11 time winner of the Finnmarksløpet 1'000km sled dog race. You can't find a better sled dog guide and experience than at Husky Lodge. 

Tip - not all the cabins have a shower / toilet and is a short 15 meter walk away. My wife and I stayed in Danskar cabin - spacious with a kitchenette, shower and toilet. Three bunk beds. 

Highly recommended. 

Great lodge & fantastic people 

We called by as part of a tour group but enjoyed a couple of hours here.  It's a fascinating place with many constructions and fit-outs done by Sven the owner.  Since it was summer, we didn't get to do any sledding but we met the huskies who had indivdual kennels spaced well in a field.  They all proved extremely friendly.  We were treated to an interesting snack which included preserved reindeer heart and salted lamb, smoked salmon, cheese and delicious home-made marmalade along with a home recipe for chocolate cake that included local berries.

Fascinating and hospitable, even in Summer

You have to experience this place as a treat to yourself! It is so phenomenal. Sven Engholm's Husky Farm is like a page from a ferry tale. The entire place was built by Sven who has led expeditions to Spitsbergen, Siberia and Greenland and won the longest sled dog race several times. We enjoyed seeing all his handicrafts with the cabins as well as his workshop where he makes everything on site. We enjoyed traditional snacks and then we had a great presentation on training and working with the husky dogs. In the winter, they take guests on sled rides or they can cross-country ski while the sled pulls supplies. It's hard to imagine this place covered in snow with temperatures down to -40. But our guide showed us her clothing and equipment she uses and how important it is to keep covered in winter. They have to work the dogs in the summer but when it is hot they often take them over to a local island to let them swim for exercise. But the most amazing thing that struck me is how lovable the dogs are. They crave and want attention. So the staff spends a lot of time giving the dogs what they need. We were free to roam around and pet them even if it was quite intimidating at first. They love to climb all over you so if you love animals and the snow, this is the place to go. We're told you need to get reservations sometimes a year in advance as they book up. This was a real gem on the road to our next destination, Ivalo in Finland.

Wow!

Engholm Husky lodge is a special place. Quirky but special. We booked a weeks holiday here including a 3 day overnight tour. The cabin was great, comfortable and more luxurious than I had imagined with underfloor heating, fridge, great shower, etc. The sledding was great fun if tiring, especially on the first day going uphill for most the trip.  The wilderness cabin was basic - with the coldest loo known to man - but what was expected! Be prepared to help do the dogs and get involved.  Our guide Kenny was brilliant, patient and kind.  It seems everyone goes 'in tandem' so you have 2 sleds following a team of 8 dogs, this seems to work ok but the person on the back sled doesn't have so much fun plus a trickier time of it. Evening meals were great, but don't expect pudding or cake or anything.  We covered about 100 miles of pristine wilderness which left me with tears in my eyes it was so beautiful.   All in all a great, memorable trip and one we would love to do again some day.

wonderful holiday

We were taken here primarily for a display and talk about the huskies and secondarily to see the unique lodge(s). Other words a semi-sales pitch. The buildings are indeed unique in design and construction. Slate, pine and glass and grass producing some very innovative buildings. Within the furniture etc again is from non traditional material in odd shapes etc. We were given a sampling of the food which also was excellent..traditional fare. Add into this some of the packages included driving your own husky team on a multi night trip. Staying is obviously an adventure... do it!
