Beautiful hotel in a historical building in the middle of Bryggen. The hotel staff is very friendly and always willing to help. Our room (suite) was stunning and we  couldn’t have been more happy. Just if you have a very weak sleep be aware, that there are some bars around the hotel, which might cause some noise during the weekend nights. For us, it wasn‘t a problem though.

Stunning rooms in a historic building 

Great location, we stayed in a large room that nicely fit our family of four. The character of the hotel is amazing and the room was beautiful with vaulted ceilings (we stayed in 449). We enjoyed the breakfast and check in was easy. Highly recommend. 

Great hotel in central Bergen

The historical feel and ambiance of the hotel is enchanting. In the reception there was a log fire burning, lovely when you’ve just left a snowy street. The staff were super friendly and welcoming. We had a suite which was spacious, beautifully equipped, and a lovely bathroom with a roll top bath. We found the bed very comfortable, so comfortable in fact, we overslept.  Don’t stay here if you want a generic, sterile hotel room. But I’d you’d rather have a cultural experience in a hotel right on the harbour side, minutes from bars, restaurants, and the shops; this is the place for you.

Beautiful historical hotel

Old and beautiful hotel, but a shame that there are stacked chairs and stuff in the hallway. The hallway mess ruins the nice look a bit. The room was a deluxe double and had had a nice look. The room was spacious, but the bed was super soft and there were a white layer of dust on the curtain rod and also on the pipes for the fire sprinkler system. We also had some smell in the bathroom. I think we were very unlucky with the room we were assigned and I hope this is not the standard for the hotel. The old style of the building and rooms are truly beautiful in the way they look, so that was what made it worth it for us. 

Okay, but not perfect stay 

Except for the location, this rates as one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. The room was supposed to be 200 sft, appears they took the bathroom also into consideration. Half the room had a sloping ceiling as a result my wife & I bumped our heads a dozen times. The only way we could use the electric kettle was with an extension cord - no thought given whatsoever! 
The gentleman at the reception kept reading his novel & looked irked if we asked him for some basic information.
All in all a nightmare!!

The worst hotel ever !

The hotel photos reflect some charm.  Unfortunately, that is not the reality for this rather expensive ($651/two nights), but dingy hotel.  1) It is located on a small dead end street with an enormous retaining wall on one side.  It rains a lot in Bergen and the street becomes a river in short order.  2) Hotel staff (and there are not many) can best be described as rather bored.  When we first checked in no one was at the reception desk.  He finally showed up and was uncertain about which room we had.  He seemed so laissez faire that I asked to see the room before we hauled the luggage in.  The hotel has an elevator, but when he took us to the floor where room was located it also had a rickety narrow open wooden staircase with about 20 stairs that you had to climb to reach your room.  He told me people liked the room because it was quiet and had "original timbers".  I asked to see another room.  Unfortunately, it also had steps.  I settled for the 3rd room which at least was not difficult to reach.  It was dark and the furnishings reminded me of 1930's decor.  Not replicas - the originals.  3) There was a small attractive bar on the ground floor, but unfortunately, a bartender never surfaced in the entire time we were there so we were not able to use it.  4) The breakfast was average - served in a drab dining room.  I've been traveling in Sweden and Norway for over 40 years and have to say that this hotel may be historic, but it has little else to recommend it.

It seems so old style, but with a good architect, feels like I was staying in a mountain resort, quiet, friendly.

Amazing historic location. The museum is being restored too 2024. It is a funky 700 year old pair of buildings. But they have an elevator, repaired while we were there.

A bar across the street played excessively loud music until 2:00 AM on Friday and Saturday. It was a charming hotel, but not a pleasant stay.
