I just recently spent 2 weeks in Sjds, and used Secret Cove as my base.  The rooms are simple, and clean, with a shared bathroom that is cleaned frequently.  Staff is excellent, and the breakfasts are great!

We were staying only one night in San Juan del Sur during Semana Santa, which is probably the busiest week of the year. We had a heck of a time finding a place that would accept a reservation for one night and/or not charge per person. We booked at The Secret Cove through AirBnB and it saved us! Nice place to stay, Allie was super friendly, great location, and breakfast made to order included! I do suggest getting donuts next door too, though! 

The bathroom is a jack and jill style that is shared between two rooms. The air conditioning is a reasonable extra fee, and if we had been there longer we probably would have used it!

Ali and the team were warm and inviting and cooked a delicious included breakfast for us every morning. The room and shared bathroom was clean and spacious. The kitchen was fully equipped and easy to cook in with plenty of storage in the fridge. Highly recommend this place. 

I love The Secret Cove Inn.  The rooms are very comfortable, clean, and affordable and the location is on a quiet street, right in the center of town.  The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful.  I would definitely recommend this place to friends and family.

My husband and I are in our 40's and appreciated having a quiet place to come to at the end of the day. Everyone was very nice and accommodating. They offer lots of extras, including laundry service (for an extra $6 per load)and a massage therapist ($25 per hour!). We had a shared bathroom, which we thought would be a real bother, but it really wasn't that bad.
I appreciated being given the use of the kitchen, since in the afternoons, I like to make a cup of coffee. Was a little disappointed to find that I wasn't allowed to use the coffee maker, but I had bought a "pour-over" maker on our trip, so I used that with a pot of hot water ... There is a refrigerator specifically for guest use, so you can store any meds or food. By the way, there's a great maker of nacatamales just two doors down. Available on Fridays and Saturdays. 
Bed sheets were crisp and clean, but they wouldn't stay on the bed. Either that, or I tossed and turned a lot. Towels were replaced when ever we asked.
It is also a very secure place to stay, since, as guests, you are entrusted with keys to the entrance. So you know that only the guests are coming through the door.
If I ever come back to SJDS, I plan to stay here again.
