I stayed overnight on March 2020 on the way to Scuba diving in Poor Knights Island.I loved the place.Its very clean and beautiful.Kathy is very nice and very helpful.You feel like you are at home.You cant go wrong if u choose this place.If I ever go back to Whangarei,I know where to stay.

Look no furthur if you want to stay in Whangerei.

Thanks to Kathy, our host, we spent a very good time in Whangarei. Kathy is really friendly and helpful, giving tips about restaurants, things to do in the area (and sure she will take onboard what you like to do), and generally being a great host. The room was perfectly clean and quiet, with a lot of details that make all the difference (cookies, coffee, tea, fridge, kettle,... in the bedroom, shower gel & shampoo, cotton buds, towels,... in the bathroom). We had also access to a terrace with two confortable chairs to look over the trees and the garden (plus a mosquito repellent... another kind detail).
Breakfast in the morning was good and filling, with muesli, toasts, proper coffee and again, a good chat with Kathy (and extra tips about NZ!).
Location is convenient, next to Mair Park and easy walking access to the city centre (consider 10-15 minutes)
We really enjoyed our stay there and for sure, we will be back there again!

Wonderful stay, brilliant tips and excellent host

Came to Whangarei for business and stayed for 5 nights. 
The rooms at the B&B are very nice,  spacious, nicely decorated and clean. Furniture and amenities are of good quality.  Kathy makes everyone feel very welcome and helps out with great local recommendations.  
Her breakfast ist great. 

Excellent stay at By the park B&B

In normal circumstances I would start off by setting out the good points of this B&B, then mention any drawbacks. I'd mention any difficulties you might have in finding 'By The Park', then sum the place up in a sentence. 

Not this time. The delightful owner of this superb establishment has decided to retire, and we were her last guests, ever. But please don't blame us! This was a long-considered decision on Kathy's part. It's true, though. By The Park is no more, it has ceased to exist, it has shuffled off Booking dot com and joined the choir invisible.

All we can say is a sincere thank-you to Kathy for looking after us so well for her final five days in the B&B business. And I'm sure that all the previous guests who lavished praise on her would join my wife and me in wishing her a long and happy retirement.

A long and happy retirement

Our host and house were lovely. The breakfast was basic but fine. The room comfortable and the bathroom was a good size. Its a 20-25 minute walk into town but if you dont mind the walk its a good way to walk off dinner! The outlook over the bush land was lovely and peaceful.

Beautiful B & B on outskirts of Whangarei

We  were in  theimmaculate downstairs apartment which had the choice of two rooms, (one a twin and the other a queen bed.)  Private garden outlook. Nice log fire in the lounge area upstairs. Kathy the owner was a great host.

Riverside location with large park on the opposite shoreline. Fifteen minute walk into town

Warm Welcome

We stayed here for one night, and wished we had booked for longer since Kathy's B&B was superb. Exceptionally clean accommodation, comfortable bed, fantastic room and ensuite bathroom. We found plenty to see and do in and around Whangarei - if you'd like a fantastic meal, then go to the Love Mussell restaurant in town. 
If you're planning on visiting the Whangarei, we'd highly recommend you book this accommodation.

Excellent value for money

Fantastic accommodation in Whangarei, providing a touch of luxury in a beautiful setting. Guests can relax on the balcony overlooking a delightful garden, which is lit up in the evening. Magical! Our host, Kathy was extremely friendly and helpful and will even do your washing for a small charge. Breakfast was great with home made muesli and fresh passion fruit from Kathy's mum's garden. Will definitely stay again.
