This cosy spot is absolutely exceptional.  Trudy and Barry are the kindest and most accommodating hosts and the rooms and setting are just wonderful.  Sitting outside the room, looking across the vines to the hills,  in the early evening with a cup of tea and one of Trudy's homemade biscuits is about as perfect as can be!  Trudy had contacted us in advance to suggest and make restaurant and tour bookings, all of which were fabulous.  The room was delightful and very comfortable and the breakfasts were divine.  I cannot imagine there is a better place to stay in Marlborough and we will look forward to returning!

A delight among the vines!

The Straw Lodge in Blenheim is one of our top favorites during our trip to New Zealand. Located in the middle of vineyards, this beautiful lodge is characterized by excellent host quality. It's a pity we were only guests for one night.

Straw Lodge is the place to be if you are planning a trip to Blenheim. Amazing vineyard  views, fabulous accommodations with comfy beds with all of the comforts of home and the most genuine and friendly hosts you could ever ask for. A visit to the Straw Lodge has been on my bucket list for a number of years when planning my 2 month holiday to New Zealand. We were on our honeymoon and we felt we were in paradise from the moment we arrived.  It was so hard to leave. Trudy makes  you feel like family from the moment you meet her and makes incredible breakfasts fit for a king.  Barry complements Trudy with his charm, personality and knowledge of the vineyards. If you are looking for a private oasis that will let you be immersed around spectacular vineyards, look no farther than The Straw Lodge. It is the hidden gem in Blenheim. Book this Mazing lodge along with a meal at Gramado’s restaurant and you will make memories that will last a lifetime.

We had a fantastic stay at Strawlodge. The room was spacious, clean and totally comfortable. The breakfast was just great and the “special” mixed platter for Christmas Eve was awesome. But the best thing about this Bed and Breakfast were the hosts Trudy and Barry. We were so friendly and warmly received and felt almost like old friends. We had the impression that our wishes were read from our eyes. A stay that we will never forget and can only recommend to everybody. Thank you so much, Trudy and Barry for this unforgettable Christmas!

Even though we were only two nights at the Straw Lodge, we felt at home, especially because of the amazing hospitality and warmth of Trudy and Barry. Here you get everything you need: a wonderful room with a view, a great breakfast with a view, tips for entertainment and restaurant recommendations, family engagement but also a lot of privacy. Absolutely recommended! Thank you very much for the good time at the Straw Lodge!

Great lodge in the middle of the vineyard

We managed to book the lodge on the 22nd of April through their website, not knowing they had already closed for winter. They were still more than willing to open just for us and we had a very warm welcome! Trudy and Barry are just such lovely, generous people; it was a delight meeting them! The lodge is decorated with an eye for detail and for all your needs possible. If you feel like being spoiled for a weekend (or longer) this is definitely the place to be!

Wonderful!! 

Trudy and Barry have created the perfect retreat amidst their vineyards.  We initially planned on staying just one night, but were so infatuated by Straw Lodge that we extended to three nights (luckily it was the end of the season and there was space for us).  The perfect hostess, Trudy suggested amazing dining experiences and made reservations for us.  Additionally, she suggested outings in the area, including making arrangements at artist studios and for horseback riding.  Time spent with Barry and Trudy was fun!  We chatted in the mornings and upon our return at the end of the day.  The location of Straw Lodge is convenient within the Marlborough wine region.  We stayed in the second of their two accommodations and everything you would might need was thought of to make our stay perfect.  We travel lots and have stayed in many bed and breakfasts, but this stay was truly special.  We were welcomed as friends and treated like family.  Oh and I must say how amazing the breakfasts were each morning - fresh and sumptuous.  They also gift you with a bottle from their vineyard - very tasty.  Morning walks in the vineyard were a great way to start each day.  Needless to say our photos were beautiful.  If you are planning a trip to this wine region, plan at least three days at Straw Lodge, a week would be perfect!  We will be returning!

A piece of heaven in the midst of wine country!

Excellent location; nice and quiet. Great room has all comforrt and space; terras overlooking the vineyards. Hosts Beryy and Trudy are the best. Attention for every detail and a briljant breakfast. Should have stayed here more than 1 night.

The best place to stay in Marlborough

Beautiful comfortable accommodation in the owners' vineyard. Picture perfect views and Trudy and Barry are the most hospitable hosts ever. They are extremely welcoming, happy to share their vine and local knowledge - nothing is too much trouble to give their guests an above and beyond experience. A bottle of their wine, home made cookies, a delicious cooked breakfast including home made jams and lemon curd that was the best we've ever tasted were all part of the package, ….and Barry even drove us to our local restaurant choice. We felt like we were staying with family 
You will exceed your expectations if you choose this accommodation.

The main reasons we loved our stay at Straw Lodge were three-fold: 1) The personal service and genuine friendliness of Trudy and Barry, our hosts.  It's getting harder to find places to stay in New Zealand where you can have direct contact with locals.  Trudy and Barry are the real deal!  They tried very hard to ensure we enjoyed our stay, and were 100% successful!  For example:  a) personally-prepared breakfasts, custom-cooked to our liking (included in the price).  These were always delicious!  and b) their knowledge of the local area, restaurants and winery tour guides, all of which we used and enjoyed. 2) This is an area of outstanding local beauty, and the Straw Lodge itself is beautifully cared for, clean and well-maintained.  It was awesome to relax at the end of the day in the private patio, and watch the sun go down over the vines, as well as to see the stars and the Milky Way after sundown. 3) This is a perfect base to explore the whole Marlborough area, as well as a good jumping-off location for departing to or arriving from the ferry to/from the north island.  Overall, we would definitely stay here again - this was one of the best vineyard B&B/hotels places we have ever stayed at.
