Hello if there would be one accommodation we would recommend in Queenstown,  it would definitely be Alpine Backpacker.  Everything needed is there and on top of it, it s middle of city.
Staff is great.
Try it,  you would not regret it.

Best accommodation !

On the first day/night we enjoyed the hostel after being in a large noisy hostel, had a great sleep and cooked in the well equipped quiet kitchen although the man on reception made us feel guilty for having stayed at that hostel and asked us repeatedly if we knew how to behave (we are 26 years old). Kitchen/lounge closes at 11pm so if you are not going out you have to go to bed, a real shame if you are socialising and watching a good film like we were. Also got reminded about what time we had to leave. They also come into the rooms to hoover and open the curtains before 12pm. Me and my partner have had a lot of early mornings recently and met friends so have been out late, so find this rude and interrupting. Also got told we had wasted the day our first night after having a lie in and felt very judged by the receptionist/manager. Personally it seems like they do not like backpackers here, and try to tell you how to behave at all times, even though this is a hostel just outside of Queenstown, a party central of New Zealand. We are not huge partiers but made to feel like we were 18 again getting told off by our parents constantly. Wouldn't recommend or stay again

Felt very judged

This hostel is very close to the city center. It has all you need, a kitchen and shower. The rooms are clean and you get your sheets and linen for the bed. 
But the owener is very special! It‘s impossible to check in bevore 3pm. He is just not there! And he turns off the stove while you are cooking and in the toilet you can‘t close the window, even if it‘s 4C outside! 
So, if you can, go to another place! And if everything is booked, it‘s ok for one or two nights! 

Ok for one night

Positive: the hostel is in a good location. Unfortunately, the negatives force you to overlook this. 

Upon arrival (1.50pm) the manager, Taff was no where to be seen, he was on his lunch break, there was no other member of staff present to check us in so we were forced to wait around, leaving our luggage in the car. 

When he arrived, Taff was pleasant and gave us some good tips re walks and sights nearby but he does seem to love the cold/being cold. On 3 occasions he came in to open every window (without reason) leaving us sat in coats and thick socks! The heater in the living room didn’t work either - thoroughly unpleasant, we may as well have been camping outside. 

There’s also a strict no drinking policy so don’t even think about trying to have a glass of wine to unwind after a busy day! 

Freezing cold, uncomfortable beds

I Honestly do not know where to begin in trying to explain how bizarre this hostel is. 

There is a very very long list of strange rules for a hostel that you must obey if you stay here. After making a small bit of noise after coming back from a night out, staff came into the room to lecture us about 5/6 times the next day. I think we got the picture after the first time. The Canadian girl that works there is extremely rude and speaks to you like a child. 

The list is endless. If you do not speak, do not watch TV, do not socialise, do not make any noise whatsoever, this is the hostel for you! The majority of staff are extremely rude and unfriendly. It felt like being on a school trip at about the age of 10. This really is the most shocking customer service I have ever come across.
