Mountain Heights Lodge

Clean and comfortable place to stay for a night or two.

Nice lodge on the outskirts of the Tongariro National Park.Very welcoming owners.  Nice continental style breakfast prepared just for us.

Excellent lodge run by a lovely couple, we feel fortunate to have found it. Comfortable bed, many nice touches to make it an extra special place to stay. Truly enjoyed it

Perfect spot for exploring Tongariro. Very comfortable. Best to have a car if you stay here.

The stay was even better than imagined.  The owners were so accommodating.  They helped us to get better WiFi and provided us snacks as well.  The main lodge area was comfortable and quiet to work as well.  Such nice people!

We really enjoyed our one night stay at Mountain Heights Lodge. Our room was comfortable and spacious, the continental breakfast was great. Maria and her husband were really great hosts. We wish we could have stayed longer.

Fabulous stay.  We had deluxe room in the lodge with balcony.  Room was spacious and clean. Bed comfortable.  Breakfast provisions provided were very generous.  Definitely recommend.  A great base to explore national park.

We enjoyed our stay, appreciating the quiet location and pretty view. The self serve breakfast in the breakfast nook hit the spot. Our second floor room was airy and well appointed. Regretfully we only spent a single night. The lodge is conveniently located for visiting the national park.

Mountain Heights Lodge was a cute and cozy place to stay. Sadly we were there only one night.

I would like to start by saying that the site was nice, and it was easy to find and convenient.  When we arrived, I had to wait for a while for the concierge to come to the desk.  He showed us to our rooms up a set of stairs that had very narrow doors at the top that were very hard to offload our luggage through. The room was quaint but on the small side. The shower was very different than any other shower I had ever seen and took a while to figure it out. The bed was nice and comfortable byt there very little space to move around the room with all the luggage in it. I would recommend this place if you are traveling light.

Convenient for our stay to do the Tongariro Alpine Crossing- Maria was spectacular- friendly and a great host. The only thing was that the location is directly on the highway and you did hear the passing traffic at night but this is not a fault of the lodge - its a very convenient place with onsite shuttle pickup for the TAC.

A wonderful stay at Mountain Heights Lodge, highly recommended.The hosts, Karl and Maria, are very friendly and helpful, gave us useful information on food opitons & trails when checking inRoom (motel unit) was clean with full equipped kitchenette. The private Spa pool is a plus, relax after a full-day hiking.

Positives - location was handy to the crossing. Bed was comfortable and the room was a good size with everything I needed. Check in was fast and friendly. Beautiful views. The cleaning was great and staff turned on the heated towel rail and heater when they knew I had been out on the crossing for the day - nice touch!Things that could have been better - was not advised that the road the lodge was on was closed at certain times of the day so I could not actually get to the lodge until after 4.30pm when the road opened. Wifi is terrible. Shower pressure is terrible. No check out guidance provided nor any room directory with local info etc. All milk pottles provided were at least a week past use by date.

This is an excellent location for staying around the National Park. We stayed here so we could hike the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, it is one of the shuttle stops and picked us up right at the hotel, and after our hike brought us back to the hotel. The hotel manager emailed us the shuttle reservation link, so it made it super easy to plan our adventure!

We had a beautiful sunny room in the lodge that was clean and very comfortable. The wood stove on the first floor was delightful on a chilly evening. The breakfast room had a very nice self-serve continental breakfast. The hot tub was the best we experienced in New Zealand! National Parks Village two restaurants were close by and all the Tongariro Park activities were close by. Loved it.

This property is old but clean.  I think all the motels/hotels in the area are old.  It was ok for one night.  The best part was the lady who checked us in.  She was very pleasant and helpful.

Very well presented.  Had all that we needed in a unit.  It was immaculate.  Very helpful owner and staff.  A real highlight was going outside at night, and with a cloudless sky seeing an amazing night sky filled with millions of stars - all as a result of not having any  light pollution.
