Brett was very helpful, got an upgrade, the room was great, and the bed was soooo comfortable.

Absolutely stellar place, owner is super cool & helpful, kitchen & dining area great. located 2 minute walk from PaknSave, 6 minutes from bicycle rental. Great value!

We chose Ducks and Drakes because their replies to reviews had us laughing. We're so pleased we did; we had an excellent experience in every way. I think we tested the place pretty thoroughly, staying for six nights.

The location is great; central yet quiet. We came by bike; there is a ramp that meant we could take our bikes up easily. The courtyard is really pleasant and was a nice place to chat with other guests, but the space was respected: no one was noisy. And it is real grass, in case you were wondering (as we did) how they could keep a lawn looking so lush. Having the laundry and washing line space was great; attention to detail included detergent and ample pegs being provided free of charge.

The whole week we were there was hot, but we felt cool inside as we could open up the windows and doors for excellent airflow. We were in a cottage. The decor and facilities were lovely.

Brett was professional, friendly and attentive. Thanks for excellent follow-up at each stage.

We'll stay again.

The Place is situated in a very convenient location very close to the city center.
We were a group of 8. Rooms were of a decent size. Sheets, pillow covers, towels were clean and fresh.

Brett was very helpful and attentive to our needs. 

Overall it was a pleasant experience  for us all.

The Hostel is very nice. The bathroom is clean and the kitchen is big and you can cook everything what you want.

The Shuttlebus brings you to the Mount Egmont Nationalpark to all the Hikes. Even the Pouakai Crossing from one end to the next is no problem to organise.

Very nice hostel, super friendly staff. They really try to make it perfect for everyone. They also have a shuttle to the mountain. Clean. Good kitchen. Nice showers & toilets. Close to the supermarkets. Short walk to the center & the sea. Very nice

This was a wonderful stay! Spacious, clean and very cute.

Nice place, has everything you need for a stay. In a safe and quiet neighbourhood. Very close to New World/ Countdown for food shops. Brett at reception was very friendly and welcoming. Comfy beds. Showers take a little while to heat up so it felt like I was wasting water but the hot water came through eventually. Would definitely recommend Duck & Drakes!

Perfect stay for six nights

Brett was great, supportive, and has a  caring personality...carried my bags from the car as i was on crutches.My bed was very comfortable with a nice view out on the courtyard.The kitchen has everything and there is a large lounge, sun/day room and dinning room...spacious, tidy and clean.Great value for money.

Fantastic location, gorgeous large room, friendly staff that were helpful checking us in. We stayed in a studio cottage and it well exceeded our expectations. The room has plenty of facilities with private ammenities, and was large and clean.  We were provided with off street parking with the room we booked. Easy walk to city and Pukekura Park. Overall a great stay and we'd definitely stay again. 

Awesome stay that exceeded our expectations

I chose a one-bedroom cottage unit for our stay to give us a bit of extra room. I thought that by staying at Ducks & Drakes, we would be able to walk to some of the New Plymouth sites and this was the case. I also wanted to use the shuttle service to get to the National Park, but instead Brett recommended another company that offered private 3-hour city tours which suited our needs better, particularly as the weather was not great.

Pleasant stay, not so pleasant weather.

I highly recommend staying at the backpackers.  It was very clean, quiet and had everything you could need for a comfortable and convenient stay.  If not intending to eat out there is no need to bring anything with you other than food. I am so pleased to have found them and look forward to staying again sometime.  Brett made us feel very welcome.  Thank you Brett.

Great place to stay

Going here no one should expect luxury. It used to be a boy’s school dormitory … since the 1910’s!!! So considering the beating a place like that has endured its amazing the place is still standing. 
Lotsa’ traffic lots of use,by lotsa of guests from EVERY walk of life and it shows as there’s a bit of wear and tear here and there. But it’s clean and neat and full of hospitality. 
The proprietors are extremely kind and welcoming helpful and flexible. 
And the hostel puppies are sweet and endearing. 

You can’t expect style or luxe but you’ll come away with excellent memories and a warm heart. And quite probably new friends.

Perfect for the purpose

1 bedroom cabin walking distance to CBD. Nice room, only missing few little things like dish cloth, tea towel and light globe in lamp. Staff very nice, friendly. Fire alarm went off at 2 am which was a horrible shock in the middle of the night! think it was just a false alarm. Overall, had everything we needed/expected. Stairs to room could be problem for some with heavy luggage. Was at good price, can’t complain.

Comfortable place close to the CBD

Price worthy and central in New Plymouth. Walking distance to supermarkets and downtown. Limited parking. $5 extra for sauna if you book through hotels.comLittle out dated but clean room. Room not cleaned daily but towel changed. Heather (and hot water bottle...)in the room. Would not live here with my family but alone for a few nights is OK.

You get what you pay for - small, old but clean

When I arrived  at the Ducks and Drake's  i was told  by  the proprietor  that I had been upgraded  to a suite  with kitchen facilities  and bathroom.  What a pleasant  surprise. The room was clean and the bed quite comfortable. I was also offered  WiFi. All in all a nice  stay, I would definitely  recommend  The Ducks and Drake's .
