Very comfortable and relaxing place to spend some time. Lovely bushwalks inside a predator free fence. Big. comfortable rooms and a generous and tasty dinner. The host, Dale, clearly enjoys what he does and ensures all have a good experience 

We’ve stayed here on 3 occasions with friends - under the current management - and it’s very special. Lovely homestead with superb surrounding bush habitat run by Forest and Bird.  Dale, the host does a wonderful job of running the place and being a true host. We had evening meals there for a decade birthday, and he really went out of his way, even producing a vegetarian meal for our group. We just love going here with friends, and also made good use of the baby grand.

We went for lunch to this historic homestead, and although the menu is limited, the food and attention to detail is delicious and impressive respectively. Dale Pullen is a wonderful host. Anyone visiting the Whanganui area MUST visit this place. After you have had the wonderful fluffy scones with jam and cream, walk around the beautiful forest sanctuary for New Zealand bird song at it's finest. It is so good to see the preservation of this fine place. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon Dale, My Dad loved listening to the old gramophone 

Excellent find and only sorry we had so little time to explore. The weather didn’t help either. But we took a walk and explored the wetland trail. Some interesting bird life and did we see a pair of Kiwi in the undergrowth?
More time here and a better knowledge of NZ birdsong would have been ideal

We held a special birthday dinner at the Homestead.  We booked a private room, which was beautifully arranged, we had comfy chairs to sit and chat for pre dinner drinks.  The hosts were amazing and the food was fabulous.   The roast beef with all the trimming, oh and the apple pie was the best.  

The design of the room, enabled everyone to hear each other as a few were hard of hearing.  It is bar service or you can byo with a small corkage fee.

There was tea, coffee and port after the meal was a lovely compliment to a great evening.

Situated overlooking stunning rain forest and hilly, pastoral landscape, Bushy Park Homestead is truly spectacular. Walking into this historic home brings you back in time, with interior design matching the extraordinary exterior architecture--period furniture, stained windows, gorgeous fireplaces, antique light fixtures, artwork--so much to see and take in. John, the Homestead's manager, greeted and treated us to proper English tea both on our initial arrival and again the next afternoon. He served delicious home-cooked dinners that we enjoyed with the other guests in the candlelit formal dining room. 

Besides the warm hospitality and wonderful accommodations, we found Bushy Park's expansive grounds simply amazing. We couldn't get enough of the tracks through rain forest and wetlands, watching and listening to all the beautiful birds that inhabit this immaculately preserved sanctuary.  Our walks were so serene and relaxing. 

While we're pretty picky about having our own ensuite bathrooms wherever we stay, the shared hallway bathrooms turned out just fine. Ladies and men's bathrooms are each fitted with two walk-in showers, two toilets, and two sinks.  The bedrooms also have sinks.  My wife, on one of her late night trips to the bathroom, actually got her best photo of our whole trip. She saw through a hallway window a Ruru owl that frequently visits the front porches looking for moths drawn to the porch lights.

I went on two occasions with different groups of friends in October 2022, staying a single night and dining in on each occasion. It was a birthday celebration, and Bushy Park was the perfect match of affordability and specialness. The homestead is lovely and refurbished beautifully and appropriately for a historic building. The beds were very comfortable. Dale, our host was terrific - he provided us with a lovely meal on each occasion and made us feel very much at home. Two of our party played the baby grand in the billiard room and that also helped match the venue and the occasion perfectly. And then there is the surrounding reserve with its wonderful bush and birdlife! All of our guests had a lovely time and we would certainly recommend staying over if you have a special occasion - or if you simply want to rest up in beautiful surroundings and enjoy some forest bathing as well.

When we first visited Bushy Park in 1978 it was sad to see an old NZ farmhouse rundown and converted to a bunkhouse: but it suited us for a cheap overnight stay as a group of 20-year-olds. Now here we are as a long-term married couple, and it has been restored in spectacular fashion. Bed and breakfast, with a dinner option available, surrounded by antiques and objets d’art. Native bush and walks all around the homestead, with amazing birdlife because they have a predator-proof fence. Highly recommended!

Ten of us travelled from levin to whanganui. This lovely old house is set in wonderful grounds. We had our lunch in a large room set up so lovely  wonderful atmosphere. The service was just the best. The selection for lunch was great. We have had a lovely day out and would recommend a visit to anyone. It's very charming 

Bushypark homestead is beautiful and  relaxing accommodation set in a Forest and Bird nature reserve setting. We stayed there for two nights and were really looked after By Dale who manages the homestead . The rooms are beautiful as well as the dining and sitting rooms. Sitting round for breakfast and dinner is a delight and Dale is such an amazing host. 

There are a number of walks that you can go on to see the famous Northern Rata, other native plants and trees and an array of native birds not normally seen so easily e.g hi hi ( stitchbird) , saddleback, kereru ( New Zealand pigeon) and so on.

The Homestead was the highlight of my recent arduous return home to New Zealand. I was one of the first returnees in the post compulsory Quarantine era but my visit to Bushy Park/Tarapuruhi was the first time that my spirit felt at peace. The Homestead is a stress-reducing home that is redolent of History and the deepest values of conversation. The tour we undertook ourselves was just stunning. Native birds, especially the North Island piwakawaka (fantails) and kereru (wood pigeons) flitted and fluttered in abundance outside the picture windows. My family and i loved it.

Tarapuruhi continues to stun!

Amazing pest-proofed area of mature and ancient native trees bush full of bird life.  You'll never see so many NI saddlebacks in a day, and it's worth getting up for the dawn chorus!  We had dinner, bed and breakfast at the Homestead (thanks Dale!) - delicious food in a grand mansion full of history.
