Fordell Homestead

Our family thought the stay at Fordell was one of the most peaceful and inspiring stays we have ever had. Fordell is a beautiful restored timber homestead with exceptional rooms. Guests also have use of a balcony and verandas, two lounges, a sun room and a dining room. Tea, coffee and afternoon tea are available to help yourselves to. The breakfast is lovely and includes a fresh fruit salads and tasty preserves. Linda is a delightful host and you will want to take her garden home with you.

We were very happy with our two nights at this fine old Victorian house. A lovely garden (even in the rain!), a comfortable bed, and an excellent ensuite. And only 10 minutes from Whanganui. But the host or hostess is always the make or break for B&Bs in our view and the hostess here, Linda, was brilliant. Very friendly and happy to chat. And exceptionally hard working - pretty much every item at the lovely breakfasts was made in house - bread, jam, yoghurt, muesli, fruit salad. Linda deserves every success. Warmly recommended.

Lovely surroundings with landscaped gardens and fruit tress.Large,attractive, comfortable room was well-furnished with clean modern ensuite.  Friendly host. Tailor-made breakfast including homemade bread and jams.. Faultless.

We stayed at the Fordell Homestead back in November as part of a three-week journey around New Zeland. Fordell Homestead was by far our best experience. The B&B is impeccably clean, comfortable and peaceful. To awaken to the sound of the birds in the garden is something we will never forget. Breakfast was great and Linda took time out fo her busy schedule to sit and chat with us. If you find yourself in the area of Whanganui, do lookup this the Fordell Homestead you won't regret it.

We loved this B&B so much because everything was nicely arranged, very well equipped, absolutely clean and we had so much space, an “own” balcony with a lovely view into the garden and it was such a great pleasure to chat with Linda, the host, who takes care of their guests and their well-being ... absolutely fantastic.
The breakfast ist also soooo delicious, everything is organic or homemade - we enjoyed our stay in this very unique house (or better to say “manor”) very much!

And last but not least: the lemons from the tree! Linda was so generous to allow us to take some lemons - they were unbelievable fruity and reminded us to the wonderful time we had there.

Linda is a wonderful host. She has done up the house and garden beautifully. The spacious rooms are lovely antique colours and the facilities are modern. Breakfast, included, is organic and delicious.

Looking some where to stay at Fordell,,The only place we could find was the Fordell Homestead,What a delight to see and stay in such a grand house,,,,A short drive from Whangaui is well worth the trip,,, the rooms a huge by todays standards, Linda has done a great job putting life back to this Grand old Lady,,,would stay again

So my fiance sais to me... "it's your turn to choose were to stay" and the options where to stay at a hotel which was typical and we've stayed in many of them whilst travelling through NZ and then I came across the Fordell Homestead and thought it would be nice to try something different... Well... We were so glad we did!!! We missed out on the full dinner available as we need to call a bit earlier but we were offered a freshly home made pumpkin soup and bread and enjoyed the company of 2 other guests staying at Fordell. The whole experience was genuine, unique and very relaxing... Its such a beautiful place to stay and we look forward to staying again when in NZ next time!

Fordell Homestead is situated down a quiet country lane a few kilometres out of Whanganui.  We stayed one night only in the Orchard Room.  The bedroom is huge with very high celings - as have all the rooms in the house - and the ensuite is big enough to party in!  Even the shower is huge with 2 shower heads.  The surrounding garden is very pretty and it was lovely seeing the chickens and sheep outside.  

There's a wrap-around verandah with chairs for guests' use as well as a guest lounge and another room which is a "work-in-progress" room - a good spot for doing jigsaw puzzles or playing games.

We had a delicious 3 course dinner provided by Linda rather than driving back into Whanganui and breakfast was equally tasty with most of the food being home made - bread, baked goods, muesli etc - and much of the produce was from her garden.

Really enjoyed our all-too-short one night stay here.  Linda, our extremely personable host, was very welcoming.  We had decided to take up the option of her evening dinner and were very glad we did -- it was not only convenient, but delicious and we enjoyed our chat with her as we ate. It was nice and quiet so we had a good sleep.  Nice roomy quarters and bathroom.  Excellent breakfast - high quality and healthy food. 

Nothing could have been improved.
