Pukenui Lodge Motel & Hostel/Backpackers

We stayed at this place on a trip to Cape Reinga. Our travel agent told us that it was basic, and there weren't very many properties nearby. To say that we were pleasantly surprised is an understatement! It is a very simple place with dated furniture and amenities, but its cleanliness makes up for everything! The bed was nice and firm, and there was a great view of the Bay. There is a washer for use by guests for free, and a dryer that takes $2 coins. That was a nice amenity. Mark at the front desk told us that across the road there was a liquor store, a grocery store and a restaurant. We took advantage of all of them. I'm writing a separate review for the restaurant, but it was some of the best food that we've had in New Zealand! I highly recommend this lodging for friendliness and cleanliness
