The location of the hostel is unbeatable, although the cleanliness is abit dubious. Found some strands of hair in the bed so I wondered if the sheets were changed. Otherwise it was a comfortable stay, with a huge kitchen and lounge that is really appreciated. There’s also a supermarket nearby that adds to the convenience.

Nice friendly atmosphere.  Well kept up.  Amazing location for the price.Almost fell out of upper bunk - ladder vertical and metal rungs very slippery - easy going up - challenging going down - nowhere for hands to grip.  A slight slant to the ladder would have made all the difference.  Also bit crazy to put young people on bottom bunks and the middle 60's person on an upper.Still enjoyed the experience of staying there.

Amazing location. beautiful scenery, conveniently close to grocery store. friendly staff with good communication. large but busy communal kitchen.

Best place to stay for quiet time and lake view.

Beautiful hostel overlooking the park and lake. Friendly staff allowed me to check in early as my bed was ready and even asked if I wanted a top or bottom bunk which was much appreciated. The kitchen was spacious and the rooms and bathroom were very clean. The 4 bed female dorm felt a bit cramped at times but the bed setup is well thought out with privacy curtains, generous underbed storage and an additional smaller locker, both of which can be padlocked. Highly recommend this hostel!

We used the single room, not sharing. It was clean and had everything we needed. I wish it was a little bigger for our luggage, we had to open them on the floor and walk over them, but not a big deal.

Best Haka House in New Zealand. Big clean bathroom facilities, great location on the lake, nice private bunks. 10/10 recommend.

Had an amazing time at Haka Tekapo, super clean, organized and welcoming.I already traveled in NZ 3 months, at the end of the traveling, I really appreciated what you did for us. Early check in, beautiful kitchen and lovely staff.It’s hard to leave and already miss you guys.Wish to be there again

Beautiful Hostel, Friendly Staff

We are a family of 4 with 2 small kids and spent a very good time in an on-site room. Totally recommended and we would come back there. Unbeatable location. Meters away from dark sky project. You can stargaze from its backyard, too!  Only 2 comments: some guests left food residual in the sink; maybe a major enforcement is necessary. The bunk bed ladder is squared and very uncomfortable. We would buy tshirts if they had the bending machine design. Thank you Haka House!

This property is very close to Lake Tekapo and there are plenty of public parking spaces. The hotel also has amazing public areas and you will definitely take a photo there. The only downside is that room is not very big but their bed is super big and convenient (bedside table has 4 outlets and 2 bed lamps!!!)

Amazing view! Nice property with large kitchen and lounge area on the top. We had a room on the ground floor overlooking the lake. The paint on the heating panel on the ceiling was peeling and there was stain on the toilet seat. Shower hose was leaking but the team fixed it when we told them. Overall it was alright for a one night stay.

Our hotel had a spectacular view and the room was perfect for a one night stay…sadly we didn’t get much of a chance to enjoy it because after a great day at Mt. Cook (less than an hour up the road) we heard about some bad weather moving in during the night. Not wanting to get stuck with some road closures the next day (when we needed to be in Christchurch) we ended up checking out an hour after checking in. If not for the weather we would have enjoyed the view from our room when waking up the next day.

Great location and updated hostel. Unfortunately the quiet hours are not enforced well on each night we stayed and had limited sleep. Staff were made aware after the first night and stated they had a large group of school students with a supervisor present however the second night same occurrence happened. Otherwise nice stay

We really don’t understand the negative feedback here. It is very central, has beautiful lake view and even though we had our room right next to the communal area with Billard pool table, it was quite and we slept very well. The staff is very friendly too and there is a huge kitchen with many cook tops and oven for the guests to prepare meals. :-)

we really appreciate them, holding onto my wife’s medicine and keeping it refrigerated for her until we could retrieve it. She accidentally left it in the refrigerator. The only thing we had problems with is arriving after dark. It was very difficult to find the location. The sign on the building, almost matches the color of the building.
