The two corgis are the early warning system. Would hate to be an intruder considering the kissing and affection bestowed on us. Its an eco-aware homestead set on the edge of 4.5 hectares of private forest and wetlands. if  you love the avian type of birds, theres plenty hereabouts including the fernbirds. Its five minutes outta Invercgill and includes a guided walk. The town is a flat and somewhat featureless so this retreat is a feast for heart and soul. Book early as they only take one booking.

Really nice couple who were very accommodating.  Room was spotless and comfortable esp when we were the only guests (they only take 1 booking) and had full use of the bathroom and toilet.  After a crazy busy schedule in the rest of South Island this is a "slow-down and relax" stay.  Garden was amazing and host was nice enough to bring us on a walk for 2 hours.  Very unique b&b, bird watching from the comfort of the rooms.  Breakfast was nice too, although no meat (bacon) was served, there's homemade bread and others.  Highly recommend!

Jenny and Ian have created a unique b and b.  At the end of an easily accessible track, surrounded by natural and ancient bush, and totally peaceful and private.  Spotlessly clean, great bed, unbelievable breakfast.

We promised to come back and we came back! This was our second try to go to Stewart Island and we told Ian and Jenny last time we stayed in their B&B we would come back to see Ulva Island. We have had a wonderful time at Bushy Point, especially our long conversations during the breakfast time were so enjoyable. The place is so clean and the breakfast is still amazing. Homemade porridge, bread and marmelade/jam, fruits, yoghurt and our English Breakfast Tea - yummy! And this time we made it to Ulva, no fog, no rain, even some sunshine. Thanks a lot, our dear friends Jenny and Ian, you are such sweet people!

We had a wonderful stay with Jenny and Ian! Our accommodation was clean and very comfortable, nestled in the wonderful wetland reserve that they have tirelessly worked to create. We especially enjoyed the birds (especially the Fernbird), the NZ plants (many labelled!), the wetland boardwalk and their garden. Our only wish was to have scheduled more time to spend with Jenny and Ian. Fernbirds was one of the best places we stayed on our 2-month trip thru NZ!

This is a 'must' place to stay!!  Ian and Jenny are great hosts and make you feel at home.  They gave us a walk around their property which was teaming with wildlife and some very unusual birds.  Breakfast was amazing, the room clean and welcoming.  I wish we'd stayed more than one night it was so special.

Ian and Jenny are wonderful hosts whose house is nicely secluded in the bushy point. At their house you will sleep in a lovely room, eat delicious vegan breakfast (everyday is something special), and wake up to singing birds! You can also have a walk around the property, and who know maybe you will see a fernbird! Recommend to anyone seeking peaceful place. 

Loved this place. You can walk around the property through forest and wetlands and observe a variety of native birds including the endangered Fernbird. Feeders are outside the windows and Tui, Bellbirds and Silver eyes came in to feed. The hosts, Jenny and Ian are welcoming and provide an excellent breakfast and cosy facilities. The log fire was very welcome in the cold weather along with a bowl of chocolate. Its great to see people so passionate about caring for the environment.
